Job summary

CLA is seeking a Controller with Technology Industry experience for our CAAS practice, based in Madison, Milwaukee, or Racine, WI. You will help transform client finances, mitigate risk, and guide workforce needs with a collaborative approach.

The role requires 7 years of Controller experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and a background in accounting back-office functions. CPA preferred but not required; travel locally as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; CPA preferred but not required.
• 7 years of relevant Controller experience.
• Accounting back-office experience required.
• Technology industry experience highly preferred; public accounting a plus.
• Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Intacct) and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Develop knowledge of GAAP (FASB/SFAS) and tech industry finance implications.
• Create and enforce internal control policies for budgeting, cash management, and accounting.
• Direct financial planning, budgeting, procurement, and investment activities.
• Prepare financial information and statements for regulatory and internal use.
• Prepare financial forecasts, budgets, and management reports.
• Evaluate fund procurement needs and investment surpluses; provide recommendations.
• Monitor KPIs and financial performance; adjust as needed.
• Oversee accounting staff performance and drive improvements.
• Advise management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
• Regularly communicate with boards, bankers, investors, and key stakeholders.

About the role:

CLA is looking to hire a Controller with Technology Industry experience, for our Client Accounting & Advisory Services ( CAAS ) practice, based out of either our Madison, Milwaukee, or Racine W I office locations. As a Controller, you will help our clients transform their business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs.

Primary Responsibilities…

• Develop full knowledge of GAAP (FASB/SFAS) and deep understanding of financial and operational aspects of the technology industry.

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.

• Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization.

• Prepare financial information.

• Prepare, or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.

• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.

• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).

• Monitors and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.

• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.

• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

What you will need:

• _ Education: _ Bachelor’s degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree. CPA certification is preferred but not required.

• _ Experience: _ 7 years relevant work experience as a Controller or equivalent is required.

• Accounting back-office experience is required.

• Relevant experience in the Technology industry is highly preferred! Public accounting experience preferred but not required.

• Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Intacct)

• Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).

• _ Travel: _ This position works primarily in-office and requires frequent local travel to/from local area client sites. It may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.
