Job summary

NASIC, the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, seeks a professional engineer/scientist to apply engineering, mathematics and modeling to support the nation’s intelligence needs.

The primary purpose is to provide professional and scientific knowledge in applying engineering and analytical methods to develop models, simulations, and assessments that support customer needs in air and space systems and related domains.

Qualifications

Primary Purpose of this Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional and scientific knowledge in performance of work requiring the application of engineering, mathematics, statistical analysis, modeling/simulation, and/or other scientific principles, methods, and techniques.

Responsibilities

• DUTY 1: Performs multidisciplinary professional engineering work involving the application of computer/ electronics/mechanical and/or aerospace engineering disciplines to determine the intelligence needs of customers.


• DUTY 2: Utilizes scientific inquiry in the development of models/simulations and/or computer programs to evaluate and predict the ability to support assigned projects, studies, or problems.


• DUTY 3: Provides technical engineering guidance, advisory support and assistance during meetings, conferences, briefings, and seminars related to program planning, C4ISR technologies, and support system concepts.

Qualifications

• 1. Professional knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and practices involved in electrical, electronics, mechanical, computer and/or aerospace engineering and related engineering disciplines to perform studies, modify standard practices, and resolve issues related to the planning, development, fielding, and sustainment of complex command, control, and computer systems; knowledge in aerospace engineering sufficient to ensure accurate assessments and contributions to applying physics, communication, controls engineering analysis on air and space systems such as air defense, ballistic missiles, space operations, and counterspace activities.


• 2. Knowledge and understanding of agency, AF, the national intelligence community, Joint, and Department of Defense (DoD) structure, organizations, missions/functions, interrelationships, and operations; knowledge of security procedures to maintain control of classified material.


• 3. Knowledge and skill in conducting unbiased complex research, identifying appropriate available systems/data sources, and producing collection requirement assessments that answer specific tasks to link and leverage agency capabilities in support of consumers, customers, and clients.


• 4. Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques and intelligence analysis and production tradecraft to identify, investigate, and resolve complex issues or problems. Skill and ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions.


• 5. Skill in communicating effectively with others, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to the work, writing clear and concise intelligence products, and delivering written and/or verbal presentations to senior level audiences for decision-making purposes.


• 6. Ability to maintain control of classified material, quickly assimilate disparate data, render knowledgeable and accurate assessments of the implication of such data, and make decisions, estimates, and recommendations under conditions of urgency and pressure based on mature judgment and experience and present and/or defend a position effectively; ability to foresee the impact of changing technology.
