Job summary

Pike Corporation is seeking a Class C Lineman Underground to safely construct and repair underground distribution systems. You will work on energized and de-energized lines, travel to job sites as needed, and report to the Foreman.

This role requires two years of underground line experience, a valid CDL Class A, and willingness to travel. You will operate excavation equipment and work outdoors in varied conditions, with on-call rotations for outages and emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new construction, maintain and repair underground distribution systems.
  • Help install and repair underground facilities and conductors; troubleshoot fault locations.
  • Learn switching and tagging procedures, grounding and induced voltage on energized lines.
  • Work in confined spaces near energized equipment under supervision.
  • Operate excavation equipment (backhoes, trenchers, excavators, pulling equipment).
  • Work outdoors in extreme weather and varying conditions.
  • Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations.
  • Follow PPE protocols and safety practices.

Job description

Position Summary

The Class C Lineman Underground is a safety focused professional with the ability to construct and repair electrical underground distribution systems. You will work on energized and de-energized powerlines and may be required to travel to different job sites, including out-of-state locations, as operational and customer needs dictate. You will report to the Foreman.

Essential Functions
  • Perform new construction, maintain and repair energized and de-energized underground distribution systems while putting safety first.
  • Help install and repair underground facilities, underground conductors, including trouble shooting and fault locating on primary and secondary systems.
  • Willing and able to learn switching and tagging procedures, grounding and induced voltage on energized and de-energized lines.
  • Work in confined spaces and in proximity to energized equipment with direct supervision.
  • Operate and maintain excavation equipment to include backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
  • Available to work outages, storms, emergencies including on call rotation.
  • Willing and able to learn live-line work using approved PPE and insulated sticks required for testing voltage and switching of energized lines under direct supervision.
  • Follow all safety protocols including PPE use and possess a comprehensive understanding of insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.
Minimum Requirements
  • Two (2) years of recent underground line experience.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Willing to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
  • Willing to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

Work Environment

While performing the responsibilities of this job, you are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. You are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at constructions job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. You will perform job responsibilities in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions.
