Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS seeks a highly skilled C/C++ Software Engineer to support AMOSS and related C4I systems for homeland security missions from McLean, VA. You will develop real-time radar tracking and sensor fusion software, integrate new sensors, and maintain interfaces for dedicated clients and Web-based capabilities, with strict security and CM requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain C/C++ software for AMOSS and C4I systems.
  • Develop radar tracking, correlator, and sensor fusion algorithms.
  • Integrate new air, maritime, and ground sensors into AMOSS.
  • Support ingestion and correlation of radar plots, track data, GPS and ADS‑B.
  • Modify AMOSS UIs including real-time displays and data visualization.
  • Develop interfaces for dedicated clients and Web-based AMOSS capabilities.
  • Support second‑tier maintenance, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • Participate in upgrades, deployments at AMOC, CAMOC, COOP, and international sites.
  • Ensure changes comply with DHS, CBP, AMOC CM and security requirements.
  • Produce technical docs: SVDD, IP, SATP, and code documentation.

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled C/C++ Software Engineer to support mission‑critical Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) systems for U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations Center (AMOC). This role supports the Air and Marine Operations Surveillance System (AMOSS) and related ISR systems that provide real‑time air and maritime domain awareness across national and international operating areas.

The engineer will work on advanced radar tracking, sensor fusion, data correlation, and real‑time operational displays that directly support homeland security and law enforcement operations.

Location: US-VA-McLean

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, enhance, maintain, and debug C and C++ software supporting AMOSS and associated C4I systems.
  • Develop and maintain advanced radar tracking, correlator, and sensor fusion algorithms.
  • Integrate new air, maritime, and ground‑based sensors and data feeds into AMOSS.
  • Support ingestion and correlation of radar plots, track data, flight plan data, GPS tracking, ADS‑B, and tactical data links.
  • Modify and enhance AMOSS user interfaces, including real‑time displays and data visualization components.
  • Develop and maintain interfaces for both dedicated AMOSS clients and Web‑based AMOSS capabilities.
  • Support second‑tier software maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and system performance optimization.
  • Participate in system upgrades, refreshes, and deployments at AMOC, CAMOC, COOP, and international partner sites.
  • Ensure software changes comply with DHS, CBP, and AMOC configuration management and security requirements.
  • Support installation, integration, testing, and validation of software changes in operational and test environments.
  • Develop and maintain tracking and correlation algorithms, including adaptive Kalman filtering for target smoothing and prediction and optimal assignment algorithms for plot‑to‑track correlation.
  • Support enhancements related to data mining, analytics, and predictive threat modeling.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and system engineers supporting AI/ML‑enabled threat detection systems (e.g., Kestrel).
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, including Software Version Description Documents (SVDD), Installation Plans (IP), Systems Acceptance Test Plans (SATP), and source code documentation for long‑term sustainment.
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings with government stakeholders.
  • Support Program Management Reviews (PMRs) and operational briefings as required.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • 8-10+ years of related work experience

    • Demonstrated experience developing real‑time, mission‑critical systems.
    • Experience with Linux‑based development and deployment environments.
    • Experience with sensor data processing, tracking systems, or complex data correlation.
    • Experience debugging and maintaining large, legacy codebases.
  • Technical Skills
    • Advanced proficiency in C/C++.
    • Strong understanding of real‑time systems, multi‑threaded programming, networked data inputs, and high‑availability systems.
    • Familiarity with radar or surveillance systems, sensor fusion and tracking algorithms, GIS or mapping/display technologies.
    • Experience with version control systems (Perforce or Git).
Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee‑owners. The salary range for this position is USD $96,800.00/Yr. - USD $161,500.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
