Job summary

Burlington Stores in New York is seeking a Buying Intern for a 10-week summer program that mirrors the day-to-day of a full-time associate. You will gain hands-on experience in merchandise selection, negotiation, pricing, and planning with market visits and store tours.

The program features direct mentorship from an Assistant Buyer, a hybrid in-office schedule (2–3 days), relocation benefits if eligible, and opportunities to join Burlington as a full-time Assistant Buyer after graduation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with anticipated graduation between Dec 2027 and Aug 2028.
• Interest in retail math, product/merchandising, and a Buying career.
• Data-driven problem-solver with strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel within NY/NJ/PA for vendor visits and markets.
• Proficiency in Excel and basic Microsoft Office programs.

Responsibilities

• Support the buying team in merchandise selection, negotiation, and pricing.
• Assist with planning and coordination of product availability for ads and promos.
• Help with assortment planning to meet customer demand.
• Prepare trend boards for strategy meetings by researching trends.
• Track purchase orders and support market visits 1–2 days per week.

(Relocation benefits are available for those who are eligible).Our Day in the Life of a Buying InternSupport the buying team of one of our divisions in merchandise selection, negotiation, and pricing.Assist in planning/coordination of availability of products for advertising and promotion.Assist in assortment and category planning that meets customer demand.Prepare trend boards for strategy meetings by researching trends to plan for seasonal buys.Updating and tracking purchase orders to ensure timely delivery.Travel to market visits 1-2 days per week to visit vendors and assist in selecting and negotiating product that meets customer demands and is priced competitively.Participate in competitive shopping visits and assist in identifying product opportunities, labels, and trends.Collaborate for success; teamwork within our department is key to success and you will work with several functional areas within the department for input, ideas, and to execute your assignments.You'll Come WithPursuing a Bachelor's degree in Merchandising, Business, Retail Management, Supply Chain, Marketing, Economics, or a related field. Relevant coursework and transferable skills will also be considered.Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program with an anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and August 2028.Affinity for retail math, product/merchandising, and building a career in Buying.Basic understanding of Microsoft Office programs with proficiency in Microsoft Excel.Data-driven problem-solver who can build and maintain productive partnerships by living our core values.Sense of curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace new challenges and learning opportunities.Ability to think critically with high attention to detail and listening, oral, and written communication skills.Demonstrates initiative, curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to continuously learn and grow.Ability to travel within the NY, NJ, and PA region as needed for vendor appointments, market visits, trade shows, and competitive shopping activities.The role requires travel to Burlington offices, market appointments, and store locations throughout the region.
