Job summary

Magellan Aerospace, New York, is seeking an experienced Buyer to join our Supply Chain team. You will procure aerospace components, raw materials, MRO supplies, tooling, and services, supporting production operations and maintaining procurement records in the ERP/MRP system.

Responsibilities include sourcing with global suppliers, negotiating pricing and delivery, evaluating supplier performance, and driving cost reduction while ensuring compliance with aerospace standards and quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or business discipline; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3–5 years purchasing experience in aerospace manufacturing or highly regulated environments.
  • Experience purchasing aerospace components, raw materials, tooling, or MRO products.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical docs.
  • Experience managing P2P process, supplier communications, and invoice reconciliation.
  • Strong understanding of supplier management, cost reduction, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Generate purchase orders and maintain procurement records in the ERP/MRP system.
  • Interpret drawings, BOMs, and technical docs to ensure accurate sourcing.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, Quality, and Operations to identify requirements.
  • Source, qualify, and develop relationships with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery schedules to maximize value and continuity.
  • Evaluate supplier performance on quality, cost, and on-time delivery; implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze quotations, lead times, and total cost of ownership to support decisions.
  • Develop long-term supplier agreements and strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Drive cost reduction, supplier consolidation, and continuous improvement while maintaining standards.
  • Monitor capacity, production schedules, and inventory to mitigate risks.
  • Resolve purchasing discrepancies, including price variances and invoice issues.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable and suppliers to resolve 3-way match issues and payments.
  • Manage the procurement lifecycle from requisition to order closure and payments.
  • Prepare cost analyses, supplier evaluations, and procurement documentation for approval.
  • Serve as liaison between Magellan and suppliers to protect company interests.
  • Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and aerospace regulatory standards.

Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace, New York has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Buyer to join our Supply Chain team. This position is responsible for the procurement of aerospace components, raw materials, engineered products, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) supplies, tooling, and technical services that support manufacturing and production operations.

The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $85,000 annually.

  • Manage the procurement of aerospace components, raw materials, MRO supplies, tooling, equipment, and technical services to support production and operational requirements.
  • Generate purchase orders and maintain accurate procurement records utilizing the company's ERP/MRP system.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, Bills of Material (BOMs), and technical documentation to ensure accurate sourcing and procurement.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, Quality, and Operations to identify technical requirements and resolve supply chain issues.
  • Source, qualify, and develop relationships with reputable domestic and international suppliers capable of meeting aerospace quality and delivery standards.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, delivery schedules, and commercial terms to achieve the best overall value while maintaining supply continuity.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, cost, responsiveness, and on-time delivery, implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Analyze supplier quotations, lead times, transportation costs, and total cost of ownership to support purchasing decisions.
  • Develop and manage long-term supplier agreements and strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Drive cost reduction, supplier consolidation, and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with aerospace quality standards.
  • Monitor supplier capacity, production schedules, and inventory levels to proactively mitigate supply risks and minimize production interruptions.
  • Investigate and resolve purchasing discrepancies, including pricing variances, receiving issues, purchase order exceptions, invoice discrepancies, and supplier billing issues.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable, Receiving, and suppliers to resolve invoice discrepancies, three‑way match (purchase order, receipt, and invoice) exceptions, payment delays, credit memos, and vendor account issues to ensure timely payment and uninterrupted supply.
  • Manage the procurement lifecycle from purchase requisition through purchase order issuance, receipt of goods, invoice reconciliation, and order closure.
  • Prepare cost analyses, sourcing recommendations, supplier evaluations, and procurement documentation for management approval.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Magellan Aerospace and suppliers, fostering strong partnerships while protecting company interests.
  • Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies, customer requirements, and applicable aerospace regulatory standards.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 3–5 years of purchasing experience in aerospace manufacturing, precision machining, defense, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience purchasing aerospace components, machined parts, raw materials, special processes, tooling, capital equipment, or MRO products.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, blueprints, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Experience managing the procure-to-pay (P2P) process, including purchase requisitions, purchase orders, supplier communications, receiving, invoice reconciliation, and payment issue resolution.
  • Strong understanding of purchasing controls, supplier management, invoice reconciliation, three‑way matching, procurement compliance, and continuous process improvement.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, heat treating, coatings, and other aerospace special processes is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of aerospace quality standards, supplier quality requirements, and regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating pricing, contracts, supplier agreements, and delivery schedules.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with a focus on cost reduction and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
