Job summary

Northwire, Inc. is seeking a Buyer in the Materials department to plan and purchase materials, supporting production schedules and inventory strategies. The role involves identifying new suppliers and managing supplier performance within the ERP system.

You will contribute to cost and quality improvements while ensuring on-time deliveries and effective inventory control in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Supply Chain or equivalent experience.
  • 1–3 years direct purchasing experience.
  • APICS CPIM or CPM certification preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule purchase orders; manage material flow to support production and optimal inventory.
  • Confirm and track purchase orders with suppliers.
  • Maintain supplier information within the ERP system.
  • Assist with inventory evaluation, reporting, data mining, and process improvements.
  • Track supplier performance and support supplier relationship management.
  • Pursue continuous personal and professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary/Objective

The Buyer is responsible for the timely planning and purchasing of materials for products supporting production schedules and inventory strategies. The Buyer seeks and establishes new supply sources for new and existing products. Other responsibilities include supplier oversight and management to ensure schedules, costs and quality objectives are achieved.

You must also be highly detail-oriented and organized with excellent analytic and problem-solving abilities. It is also important that you display excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare (plan and schedule) purchase orders. Manage material flow to ensure inventory is maintained to the optimum level to support on time customer deliveries while keeping inventory holdings at the appropriate levels. Process purchase requisitions for non-inventory items.
  • Confirm and track purchase orders with suppliers.
  • Maintain supplier information within ERP system.
  • Assist and support activities including inventory evaluation & management, reporting, data mining, analysis and process improvements.
  • Track supplier performance and assist in the development and maintenance of supplier relationships.
  • Pursue and participate in continuous personal and professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will have no direct reports.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this position, the TEAM Member is frequently required to talk or listen to fellow TEAM Members and suppliers.

Expected Hours Of Work

8 A.M. – 5 P.M. Monday through Friday with an estimated total of 45 hours per week. Schedule may fluctuate based on business needs.

Travel

Up to 20% travel may be required.

No relocation is expected for this position.

Required Education And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Supply Chain and/or equivalent experience.
Preferred Education And Experience
  • At least 1-3 years direct purchasing experience.
  • APICS Certified in Purchasing Management (C.P.M) or Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM)
Additional Eligibility Qualifications Or Certifications
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and respect for associates at all levels.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
