Job Title: Planner/Buyer

Job Location: Richmond, VA 23231

Education Level: 4 Year Degree

Job Description

Plan, prepare, and communicate production schedules, ensuring the production plan supports current WIP and finished goods inventory goals. Adhere to schedule and release orders for the month, maintain a frozen schedule, support capacity planning, and meet an OTIF target of 97%.

Job Responsibilities
  • Prepare finite production schedule within SAP
  • Review capacity within SAP and understand capacity of each line scheduled
  • Manage available capacity to support long-term customer needs along with Operations
  • Clearly and concisely communicate production schedule by the close of business every Thursday for the next two weeks
  • Maintain the two-week frozen schedule wherein all orders must have all raw materials and components onsite
  • Orders within the two-week frozen schedule must be released by close of business every Thursday for the next two weeks
  • Track and ensure release of finished goods to accomplish target OTIF goal of 97% and finished product to support customer orders
  • Plan production to keep WIP at appropriate levels
  • Update Sales Orders with batches assigned daily
  • Coordinate production to optimize the phasing in and out of new materials along with Customer Service/Project Managers
  • Manage BOM priorities with BOM Specialists including attendance at the priority meetings
  • Communicate remnant inventory to Customer Service
  • Maintain parameter information for SAP (capacity, MOQ, etc.)
  • Keep item master as well as PO system information correct and up to date
  • Review MRP Purchased requisitions and exception reports to determine material requirements and act accordingly
  • Support Inventory targets, while minimizing exposure
  • Maintain/Manage supplier purchase order reschedules based upon changing requirements and communicate/confirm purchase order delivery commitments to appropriate personnel
  • Develop Material of concerns and support actions to mitigate risk
  • Contact suppliers to address material shortages and engage management when necessary in advance of the shortage becoming an issue to the end customer
  • Ensure that process orders, inventory management and non-routine production complies with cGMPs and any additional QA requirements
  • Participate in cross functional teams to resolve supply issues
  • Schedule/accommodate project work and collaborate with Customer Service/Project Managers for timeline adherence
  • Maintain FERT/HALB SKU maintenance via SAP to ensure data integrity and communication within SAP
  • Undertake special projects and other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (preferred) or 3–5 years of relevant Planning or Supply Chain experience, minimum 7–10 years’ purchasing experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of related education and experience
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of the MRP planning process and how it works within an ERP system
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
SAP experience and APICS certification preferredSkills and Abilities:
  • Must possess basic knowledge of inventory management principles
  • Ability to understand functionality of SAP and execute transactions to manage inventory
  • Ability to understand business needs and prioritize daily tasks to best support Operational Efficiency
  • Must be able to understand and retain knowledge of procedures to effectively perform job
  • Ability to communicate effectively using written and verbal methods
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use PC software such as Word and Excel, database software a plus
  • Partner with customer service to support operations and customer relations
  • Treat others with respect
  • Provide notes from all meetings hosted or ensure the task is delegated
  • Collaborate to achieve KPI goals (OTIF, WOC, EBIT and OEE)
  • Superior organization skills to process and maintain manual material requirements
  • Strong analytical skills; have the ability to collect and research data, be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and develop alternative solutions
  • Familiarity with ERP
  • Familiarity with and be able to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, work orders, bills of material, and ISO 9001 procedures
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment, have a positive attitude, and influence your team members to exceed expectations
  • Familiar with Raw Material and Chemical commodities
