Job summary

Boston Scientific is seeking a Buyer III to support the Plastics, Resins, and Chemicals (PRC) commodity team in North America. You’ll ensure supply continuity, optimize inventory, and drive supplier performance for direct materials across multiple product families.

The role requires strong ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to balance service, cost, and compliance in a regulated manufacturing environment. Hybrid work with on-site presence at 3+ days/week is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, materials management, inventory management, production planning, or sourcing.
• Experience supporting suppliers in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong ERP/MRP experience with the ability to interpret supply, demand, and inventory signals.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis capabilities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and drive resolution of supply‑related challenges.
• Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and work effectively across cross‑functional teams

Responsibilities

• Supply continuity & risk management for assigned suppliers and commodities.
• Partner with suppliers to improve delivery performance and issue resolution.
• Create, release, and expedite purchase orders based on MRP needs.
• Monitor inventory levels and safety stock; support disposition of excess inventory.
• Collaborate across Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Finance, and Global Sourcing.
• Track supplier capacity, material availability, lead times, and market conditions.
• Maintain purchasing master data, source records, and supplier information in SAP.
• Analyze key supply chain metrics and identify improvement opportunities.
• Utilize ERP and planning tools to improve visibility and decision-making.

About The Role

Join the Materials Management team at Boston Scientific as a Buyer III supporting the Plastics, Resins, and Chemicals (PRC) commodity team within the North America region. Boston Scientific is a global medical device manufacturer delivering millions of medical solutions annually. The PRC team manages a diverse portfolio of direct materials critical to manufacturing operations, including injection molding resins, chemicals, polymers, and other components supporting business growth across multiple product families.

The Buyer III is responsible for ensuring supply continuity, supplier execution, inventory health, and material availability for assigned commodities and suppliers. This role requires a highly organized and analytical buyer who can proactively manage supplier performance, identify and mitigate supply risks, support inventory optimization efforts, and collaborate across functions to ensure uninterrupted production support.

The ideal candidate operates with strong ownership and accountability, communicates effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders, and can balance service, inventory, cost, and compliance objectives within a regulated manufacturing environment.

Work Model & Sponsorship

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to work onsite at an approved Boston Scientific location at least three days per week. Preferred locations include Maple Grove, MN; Arden Hills, MN; and Spencer, IN.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

• Supply Continuity & Risk Management: Manage material availability for assigned suppliers and commodities; identify potential supply constraints, evaluate business impact, support mitigation activities, and proactively communicate risks.


• Supplier Performance Management: Partner with suppliers to improve delivery performance, responsiveness, and execution of commitments; resolve delivery, quality, and supply-related issues through effective escalation and collaboration.


• Purchasing Execution: Create, release, adjust, and expedite purchase orders based on MRP requirements, inventory targets, and production needs; maintain accurate supplier commitments and follow-through on open actions.


• Inventory Management: Balance inventory investment and service objectives by monitoring inventory levels, safety stock, demand changes, and supplier lead times; support disposition activities for excess and obsolete inventory.


• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Finance, and Global Sourcing to support production schedules, engineering changes, product transfers, qualification activities, and supplier recovery efforts.


• Commodity & Supplier Monitoring: Track supplier capacity, raw material availability, lead-time changes, and market conditions that may impact supply continuity for plastics, resins, and chemical materials.


• Data & Systems Management: Maintain purchasing master data, source records, supplier information, and planning parameters within SAP and other approved systems; leverage data to support purchasing decisions and performance monitoring.


• Performance Improvement: Analyze key supply chain metrics including supplier OTD, shortages, backorders, inventory performance, forecast alignment, and supplier responsiveness; identify opportunities for improvement and process standardization.


• Digital Enablement: Utilize ERP, planning systems, reporting tools, and digital supply chain capabilities to improve visibility, efficiency, and decision-making throughout purchasing activities.

Required Qualifications
