Job summary

Jobtailor in Memphis is seeking an experienced Purchasing professional to secure metals and commodity materials, manage supplier performance, and drive cost optimization.

The role collaborates with Planning, Operations, and NPI teams to ensure material availability aligns with demand forecasts while maintaining ethical sourcing and ERP accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience procuring metals or commodity-based materials preferred.
  • Experience supporting NPI, supply chain, or production operations preferred.
  • Strong understanding of purchasing, procurement, and supply chain management principles.

Responsibilities

  • Procure raw materials and components, focusing on copper, steel, and other metals.
  • Collaborate with Planning and Operations to ensure material availability aligns with demand forecasts and capacity plans.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to optimize cost, quality, and supply continuity.
  • Monitor supplier performance and proactively resolve issues related to delivery, quality, capacity, or service.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing data and transactions within ERP systems, including SAP.
  • Analyze and manage inventory levels to support production while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities by ensuring timely material sourcing and supplier readiness.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance purchasing processes, supplier performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders across the organization.
  • Monitor commodity markets and industry trends to identify potential risks and opportunities related to cost and supply.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procurement procedures, and ethical sourcing standards.

Job description

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • Experience procuring metals or commodity-based materials preferred
  • Experience supporting NPI, supply chain, or production operations preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered
  • Strong understanding of purchasing, procurement, and supply chain management principles
  • Experience working with ERP systems, preferably SAP
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other business software tools
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret demand forecasts and align purchasing strategies with business requirements
  • Knowledge of supplier relationship management and performance evaluation
  • Ability to analyze market trends and commodity pricing to support sourcing decisions
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams including Planning, Operations, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.
