Job summary

The McAlear Group is seeking a manufacturing operations manager to oversee a business unit, drive production schedules, and ensure safety and efficiency. You will coach supervisors, partner with HR, and manage budgets with a focus on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities include planning day-to-day operations, monitoring KPI performance, and collaborating with multiple departments to meet quality and delivery targets while maintaining a safe work environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years in a supervisory role of multiple people.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills required.
  • Comfort with budgeting and cross-department collaboration.

Job description

This position is a managerial position who oversees the business unit and has overall responsibility in the areas of production, delivery of products, security, and maintenance of all local assets. Utilization of leadership and communication skills, along with knowledge of manufacturing processes with attention to detail are necessary. Ensure safety, reliability and efficiently meet production schedules and customer demands. Supervision of retainment of Production Associates through coaching and one-on-one feedback. Through leadership support our company culture.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee the big picture, including assistance with budgeting, resource allocation, and overall operational efficiency across different departments.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and run optimum day to day operations to meet customer’s expectations regarding on time delivery and quality of the product.
  • Minimize all unnecessary costs associated with plant operations such as scrap, utilities, dunnage, and office supplies.
  • Monitor operations and implement corrective actions to achieve desired results.
  • Develop leadership through coaching utilizing experience or any other means available to ensure a positive culture.
  • Monitor all aspects of production to resolve scheduling, production, raw material, and quality issues through the plant scheduling system and ensure customer demand is being met.
  • Work with Team Leads daily to ensure all plant objectives are being met.
  • Ensure proper workflow to meet production specifications and deadlines.
  • Understand critical material specifications, visual quality standards, and industry guidelines of products manufactured and shipped.
  • Work directly with the COO in preparation of capital and expense budgets for the business unit.
  • Assist in establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for the facility based upon demand.
  • Report key measurables on a weekly basis to the COO. Taking appropriate corrective action measures to bring any KPI that is not meeting expectations back in line.
  • Work directly with the HR department in the recruitment and development of all team members.
  • Ensures leadership meets expectations regarding performance, training, and any other required administrative duties.
  • Work with Safety, HR, Engineering, Sales, Service Centers and Purchasing departments to formulate strategic objectives.
  • Anticipate and establish communications regarding workforce needs.
  • Participate in physical inventories.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Ultimate oversight of LDT 5’s in their areas, with reporting responsibilities in LDT15 meetings.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Physically assist the manufacturing team to meet demand when shorthanded.
  • Assist Purchasing department with procuring key items such as material handling.
  • Talk directly with customers to help build relationships.
  • Develop relationships with key individuals outside the company such as freight representatives, drivers, and material suppliers.
  • Willing to travel to company service centers or other locations if needed.
  • Drive company vehicles to make deliveries to customers or company locations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Must be able to withstand standing and walking on cement floors for extended periods of time.
  • The manufacturing areas of the facility are not air conditioned. Must be tolerant to seasonal temperature fluctuations within the plant
  • Physical ability to do work requiring lifting, twisting, bending, stooping, pulling, pushing, walking, and standing.
  • Physical ability to do work that requires lifting/pulling/carrying weights ranging from 1 to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work in a high‑pressure, demanding environment.
COMPETENCY, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Work in team settings, follow procedural guidelines and project management guidelines.
  • Ability to problem‑solve, troubleshoot, and teach.
  • Able to change focus frequently and often while being detail oriented and well organized.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, inter-department personnel, and production team members.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts (if necessary)
  • Willingness to work additional hours outside of the posted shift time.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Ability to formulate and meet deadlines regarding production schedules, projects, and goals.
  • Ability to train and coach the production team members to desired results and expectations.
  • General knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
  • Ability to formulate and meet deadlines regarding production scheduled, projects, and goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to formulate spreadsheets, presentation, etc., utilizing computer software.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years working in a supervisory role of multiple people
  • Minimum of three years working in a manufacturing environment
PREFERRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management or another business‑related curriculum
  • Supervisory experience of a multi member production team in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience or in-depth knowledge of the garage door industry.
