About the Role

Rocketship Public Schools is a non‑profit network of public elementary charter schools that supports student achievement through high‑quality education. The Business Operations Manager (BOM) leads campus operations, ensuring a safe, resource‑rich learning environment and enabling teachers to focus on instruction.

Schoolwide Systems & Culture
  • Own the logistics, staffing, and daily management of arrival, lunch, recess, dismissal, and physical space, ensuring joy and safety in all systems.
  • Coach Operations Specialists daily in behavior management techniques through in‑the‑moment coaching and planned 1:1s.
  • Design and lead professional development focused on behavior management skill development for Operations Specialists.
  • Manage the physical space of the building and all facilities‑related needs, including scheduling vendors and handling after‑hours emergencies.
  • Oversee food service operations, managing staff, serving as the main contact with the meal vendor, ensuring compliance, conducting internal audits, and maintaining meal program financial health.
Compliance & Budget
  • Provide financial support to the Principal on budget, cash collection, and invoice approval.
  • Serve as the main owner of school safety processes and compliance, including administering training and running safety drills; partner with the Principal to respond to emergencies.
  • Handle procurement and purchasing for the school site, including ordering, inventory, and returns.
  • Act as the on‑site IT contact, managing IT assets and assisting staff with IT issues; coordinate with central IT staff.
  • Support the logistical, compliance, and technology side of administering Rocketship’s assessments, including NWEA MAP and state tests, and health screenings.
  • CA Only: Own the free/reduced‑price lunch application process, validating forms and running income verification.
Leadership & Management
  • Model Rocketship’s core values of authenticity, community, innovation, tenacity, and pursuit of excellence.
  • Hire, manage, and evaluate all hourly school Operations Specialists, driving satisfaction and development.
  • Collaborate effectively with the campus leadership team and the national Business Operations Manager team.
  • Engage parents on operational topics with a customer‑service mindset that honors and involves families.
  • Serve as the campus COVID Lead, adapting procedures to mitigate COVID‑19 risk.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, with school‑based experience strongly preferred; many BOMs have prior teaching or school‑leadership experience.
  • Strong managerial experience or leadership/coaching roles with adults; these may substitute for specific managerial experience.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced, highly analytical, entrepreneurial environment with the ability to prioritize critical deadlines and adapt to changing needs.
  • Team‑player attitude and strong customer‑service orientation; skilled in respectful, empathetic communication with students’ families.
  • Ability to build trust with colleagues at all levels and maintain confidentiality for sensitive matters.
  • Proficiency with PC‑based computer skills, including spreadsheets and Google Suite, and quick learning of new software programs.
  • Passion for Rocketship’s mission and belief that all students can achieve high levels of academic success.
Compensation

Commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus excellent health and wellness benefits, 403b retirement plan, flexible spending account (FSA), and generous paid time off.

Physical Demands

Regular talking, hearing, and communication with adults and children; frequent use of hands or fingers, and handling or feeling objects, tools, or controls. May be required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. May occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds and climb ladders. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
