Job Description
The University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) is seeking a highlyanalytical and collaborative Business Intelligence & DataAnalyst II to support the Office of Institutional Effectiveness& Compliance (OIEC). This position plays a key role indeveloping and maintaining business intelligence solutions,advancing data-informed decision-making, and supportinginstitutional reporting, compliance, and data governanceinitiatives.
Business Intelligence Development & Reporting(35%)
- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain interactive Power BIdashboards, reports, scorecards, and visualizations that supportinstitutional priorities and strategic initiatives.
- Translate stakeholder requirements into scalable reporting andanalytics solutions that address operational, compliance, anddecision-support needs.
- Continuously enhance business intelligence products to improveusability, relevance, accessibility, and performance.
- Promote a data-informed culture through innovative reportingsolutions and self-service analytics capabilities.
Data Modeling, Integration & Analytics (30%)
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI semantic models,datasets, and data pipelines supporting enterprise-wideanalytics,
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, data extractions, andtransformation processes from institutional data sources.
- Analyze complex data sets to identify trends, opportunities,risks, and actionable recommendations.
- Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data usedin institutional reporting and analytics.
Stakeholder Consultation & Project Management(20%)
- Partner with university leadership, academic departments, andadministrative units to understand business needs and establishreporting priorities.
- Lead analytics projects through the full lifecycle, includingdiscovery, requirements gathering, development, testing,implementation, and post-deployment support.
- Provide project updates, recommendations, and technicalguidance to stakeholders throughout project execution.
- Collaborate with campus partners to improve data collection,retention, governance, and utilization practices.
Data Governance, Quality & Collaboration (10%)
- Monitor and troubleshoot reporting, dashboard, and dataintegrity issues to ensure reliable business intelligencesolutions.
- Support compliance with institutional data governancestandards, policies, and security requirements.
- Collaborate with Institutional Research, InformationTechnology, Research Administration, Finance Information Systems,HRIS, and UM System partners on data governance, best practices,and enterprise reporting initiatives.
- Participate in cross-functional efforts to enhanceinstitutional data management and decision-supportcapabilities.
Training, Documentation & User Support (5%)
- Develop and maintain user guides, technical documentation, andtraining materials for business intelligence solutions.
- Deliver workshops and individualized support to enhance dataliteracy and effective use of reporting tools.
- Serve as a resource for end users by providing consultation,troubleshooting assistance, and best-practice recommendations.
As with all positions, may perform other job-related responsibilities as needed to support departmental and campus-wide needs.
Shift
Monday-Friday, 40+ hours per week
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education andrelevant experience, and at least 4 years of experience from whichcomparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four or more years of experience developing Power BIdashboards, reports, data models, and analytics solutions.
- Proficiency in SQL, data transformation, and businessintelligence reporting.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure analytics services, orsimilar cloud-based analytics platforms.
- Experience in higher education or another complexorganizational environment.
- Knowledge of data governance and data quality bestpractices.
- Strong project management, stakeholder engagement, andcommunication skills.
Anticipated Hiring Range
$75,000 - $90,000 commensurate with education and experience beyondminimum qualifications of the position
