Job summary

Troutman Pepper Locke seeks a Business Development Specialist to support the Transactional practice, especially Private Equity and Investment Funds. You will partner with Marketing and Business Development to drive client strategies, research markets, and coordinate events and thought leadership.

The role emphasizes collaboration, project management, and a proactive approach across hybrid and in-office settings. Minimum seven years in marketing and BD within professional services preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or marketing preferred.
• Seven years of marketing and business development experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services.
• Strong project and process management experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing strategies to cultivate business with current and prospective clients.
• Conduct client, prospect, industry, competitor, and market research/analysis to inform targeted business development efforts.
• Coordinate events, sponsorships, webinars and speaking engagements, including venue research, budgeting, logistics, and communications.
• Promote attorneys' successes with the communications team, identifying media, publishing, and speaking opportunities aligning with practice objectives.
• Assist with thought leadership and blogs, including strategy and content posting.
• Identify cross-practice connections to increase internal visibility.
• Collect matter data for Foundation, the firm’s experience management system.
• Create high quality pitch materials, responses to RFPs, and client presentations.
• Assist with legal directory, award submissions, and league tables.
• Coordinate marketing expense approvals and manage practice budgets.
• Handle DealCloud/InterAction functions and related research and reports.
• Respond promptly to internal and external client inquiries.

The Business Development Specialist will directly support the Transactional practice and specifically the Private Equity + Investment Funds practice. The Business Development Specialist will work collaboratively with, and as an integral part of, the Marketing and Business Development team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in developing and implementing strategies to cultivate business with current and prospective clients.
• Conduct client, prospect, industry, competitor, and market research/analysis to inform targeted business development efforts.
• Coordinate the planning and execution of events, sponsorships, webinars and speaking engagements, including venue research, coordinating budget and logistics, drafting marketing communications (e.g. invitations, presentations, collateral), coordinating with vendors, program development, on-site support, tracking and follow up activities.
• Work with the firm’s communications team to effectively promote the successes of the attorneys, including identifying media, publishing, and speaking opportunities that align with the profile-raising objectives of the practices.
• Assist with the coordination of practice group thought leadership and blogs, including development of strategy and posting content.
• Identify cross-practice connections and opportunities for practices to increase internal visibility.
• Collect matter data for inclusion in Foundation, the firm’s experience management system.
• Assist in the creation of high quality, tailored pitch materials, responses to RFPs, and client presentations.
• Assist with the development of legal directory, award submissions, and league table submissions.
• Coordinate marketing expense approvals and help manage practice budgets.
• Handle DealCloud/InterAction-related functions—develop and maintain marketing lists and business development activities, research, reports, etc.
• Identify and respond to internal and external client inquiries in a timely manner and seek feedback/follow-up as appropriate.

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree, with a course of study in business, finance, or marketing preferred.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of marketing and business development experience, preferably within a law firm or a professional services organization.
• Strong project and process management experience.
