The Opportunity:

Ashurst Perkins Coie's Business Development ("BD") team is located in major cities across the US, EMEA and Asia Pacific. We execute the firm's strategy and drive profitable growth with a specific focus on our chosen sectors, markets and clients. We focus on industry solutions and client experience, driving campaigns, leveraging client insights, and managing strategic initiatives to service our client's needs.

This is a key role in the team, responsible for supporting practice and industry collaboration, growth and client engagement, with a focus on the Financial Services ("FS") sector.

Reporting into the Director of Business Development, this individual will work closely with departmental colleagues and the US partners to develop and execute the regional growth strategy.

This is an outstanding opportunity to proactively support the growth of the US team and specifically to focus on collaboration across Financial Services.

The individual will be a core part of the team and will work closely with the BD team and partner stakeholders to support the ambition of strategic growth.

The position requires close collaboration with the full BD team, as well as colleagues in our Communications, Finance, People & Culture and other key functions, to work as one integrated team.

Main responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Execution
  • Support the development and successful delivery of the practice & sector strategy collaborating with counterparts across the US, EMEA and APAC to ensure global connectivity and knowledge sharing.
  • Work with the practice and sector teams and key cross-practice partners on the full suite of business development activities, prioritising opportunities for revenue growth in line with the firm's strategic plan.
  • Coach and support partner teams to drive strategic market facing initiatives to meet the business plan goals, evaluating progress on implementation, managing the budget and capturing ROI.
Opportunity Identification & Management
  • Utilise market and client insights to keep up to date with current and emerging issues impacting the US market and particularly the FS sector. Identify areas of client need and opportunities for lead generation, with the goal of deepening our client relationships and market penetration.
  • Manage the entire opportunity pursuit process, including managing opportunity tracking processes and collateral and coordinating partners around pipelines and strategic pursuits (including go/no go).
  • Support all relevant major client opportunities, including bids, proposals and tailored credentials documents, working closely with the Global Pursuits and Pricing teams.
  • Design, develop and implement integrated revenue generating and profile raising campaigns and thought leadership, working collaboratively with other specialists (Brand, Comms, PR, Expertise etc) and cross-regional colleagues.
Client Development & Management
  • Support the Partners to develop and execute client account plans for key US clients to help deepen relationships and drive profitable growth across the Ashurst network.
  • Coordinate and liaise with other account managers, particularly the London FS team, to ensure consistency and sharing of strategic information across clients and industries, utilising firm best practice.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the industry clients and their businesses and assist with the sharing of that information within Ashurst Perkins Coie.
  • Leverage firm-wide thought leadership to drive engagement with relevant clients.
  • Analyse insights gathered across the practice and industry to identify trends and opportunities across the portfolio.
  • Support client listening sessions (including general relationship feedback and specific feedback related to major matters and/or pitches), analyse and share insights and take responsibility for following up.
  • Support the curation and tracking of client development opportunities and target mapping across the wider client portfolio.
Practice and Industry Management
  • Planning and delivering marketing events, sponsorship opportunities, seminars and other initiatives, to profile expertise and build individual and practice area reputation.
  • Planning and executing integrated marketing campaigns and thought leadership initiatives to achieve practice area and broader firm positioning.
  • Maintain relevant processes, systems and materials, including collateral and an up-to-date "master" list of transactions/matters.
  • Work with the global PR team to maintain effective press coverage on major deals, hires, client alerts, awards, and market developments.
  • Support entries for relevant US directories, league tables, and award submissions, to increase profile and support the regional growth plan.
  • Share market knowledge across the wider CMG team, contribute to functional and firm-wide training programmes and contribute to wider CMG team projects, including supporting new systems and processes, as required.
Risk and Control
  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requirements and internal policies.
About you:
  • Previous experience in a law firm business development environment.
  • Previous experience in the financial services sector is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience of managing projects and / or initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build trusting relationships with the partnership and business services.
  • Enthusiastic and proactive, with the ability to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple projects and activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with the ability to effectively interact with peers and influence internal clients including senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to synthesise information to identify opportunities and solve complex problems.
  • Strategic thinker with strong focus on execution.
  • Collaborates and is highly effective at working as part of a team.
  • A tenacious, proactive approach to achieving results and a demonstrable track record of helping to successfully grow a business.
  • Previous experience in a client facing capacity including client listening experience is desirable.
  • An understanding of the U.S. legal market and experience with legal and relevant industry and trade organizations.
  • High attention to detail, commitment to excellence, and strong client focus.
  • Flexibility in work schedule as this role will require working beyond set hours from time-to-time.
  • Culturally astute with a strong ability to work effectively with colleagues from other countries on cross-border activities.
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Salary Banding: $160,000 - $200,000
