Job summary

RWE Americas, LLC is seeking a senior Business Development professional to drive origination and development of energy campus opportunities for data center customers in the United States. You will manage negotiations from concept to term sheet, leveraging relationships with utilities and hyperscalers.

You will work across internal teams to shape commercial structures, identify market opportunities, and expand the company’s FlexGen footprint while ensuring regulatory and market considerations are

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (business administration, economics, engineering, etc.).
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the U.S. electric power sector or a related field.
• Experience with at least one leading U.S. utility, IPP, hyperscaler/co-lo/neocloud or data center developer.
• Demonstrated ability to leverage relationships and industry networks to create opportunities.
• Strong knowledge of the U.S. power sector or data center market, or both.
• Experience with commercial negotiations desired.
• Experience at the intersection of electric power and data center demand preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create and build relationships across the energy and data center ecosystem to support RWE FlexGen business development objectives.
• Manage commercial progress of FlexGen Energy Campus opportunities from conception to term sheet and detailed negotiations with hyperscalers and data center customers.
• Research and gather market intelligence from public sources and direct relationships to inform development activities.
• Maintain relationships with utilities, coops, munis and other load serving entities for insights on dispatchable needs, RFPs and tariffs.
• Increase visibility of RWE FlexGen and energy campus capabilities through outreach, conferences and networking.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to shape energy campus and gas opportunities to meet customer and partner needs.

We are expanding our Business Development team to serve the growing demand for energy from large load customers in the United States. This includes originating and developing sites for data center load customers, and combining gas-fired power generation with our core business of power generation through solar, wind, and battery storage. RWE develops, owns, and operates all generation assets, while taking care of development steps only for the data center site, including land, electrical interconnection, utilities and permits, thereby accelerating the customers’ speed to interconnection and power. The Business Development team closely collaborates with other internal functions (e.g., utility-scale renewable development) and external stakeholders to identify and develop the best sites for our expanding project portfolio. The Business Development function identifies and drives new opportunities for partnerships, offtake, and project origination.

We are looking for individuals with experience in origination, business development and commercial structures for energy infrastructure, specifically natural gas power generation expertise and related commercial deals, while other experience, e.g. in renewables, data center or other conventional generation is a plus. Role Responsibilities:

• Create and build relationships across the energy and data center ecosystem in service of RWE FlexGen business development objectives
• Manage commercial progress of FlexGen Energy Campus opportunities from conception to term sheet and detailed negotiations with hyperscalers and other data center customers
• Research and gather market intelligence including public sources of information and direct relationships to inform FlexGen Energy Campus development activities
• Maintain relationships with relevant utilities, coops, munis and other load serving entities to provide early insights on dispatchable generation needs, upcoming RFPs, large load tariffs and regulation and potential new data center projects in their service territory
• Increase visibility of RWE FlexGen and energy campus capabilities and project pipeline through direct outreach, conference participation and presentations and networking across the energy and data center industries
• Partner with internal stakeholders within FlexGen and across RWE to shape energy campus and standalone gas opportunities to meet the needs of customers (data centers) and partners (e.g., utilities)

Job Requirements and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline including business administration, economics, engineering, etc..
• A minimum 5 years experience in the U.S. electric power sector or related field
• Experience working with at least one of a leading U.S. utility or IPP, hyperscaler/co-lo/neocloud or data center developer
• Demonstrated achievements in leveraging relationships and industry networks to create new business opportunities
• Deep knowledge of the U.S. power sector or data center developer market or both
• Commercial negotiations experience preferred
• Professional experience at the intersection of the electric power sector and data center demand preferred
• Relationship building:
  • Highly skilled and creating, building and cultivating professional relationships to create unique insights and unlock new business opportunities
• Communications:
  • Clear, structuring and and highly polished written communication skills. This role will require quickly absorbing and understanding complex commercial arrangements regulatory structures and market rules, identifying unique commercial opportunities in that environment and clearly and concisely communicating this to partners, customers and other stakeholders
• Industry knowledge:
  • Understanding, not necessarily mastery, of either the U.S. power sector or hyperscaler / data center key buying factors for energy
• Influencing:
  • Requires influencing internal and external stakeholders of all backgrounds, seniority levels and areas of domain expertise
• Innovative thinking:
  • Demonstrated ability to think creative, work with ambiguity and create new solutions to problems where little precedent exists
