Drive Interstates' Growth in a Strategic Energy Market

Interstates is seeking a growth-driven Business Development Manager to expand our presence in the Energy market, with an initial focus on Power Generation. This role is responsible for opening doors, developing prospective clients, and creating new business opportunities. You'll build relationships with owners, EPCs, OEMs, contractors, and strategic partners while connecting their needs with Interstates' capabilities.

This role is ideal for a strategic, motivated professional who thrives on opening doors, developing new client relationships, leading pursuits, and helping shape growth in a priority market.

This position is ideally based near an Interstates office in Sioux Center, IA, Sioux Falls, SD, Omaha, NE, or Fort Collins, CO. Interstates will consider other locations for highly qualified candidates with relevant Energy market experience. Travel is required and will vary according to business obligations; up to 50% may be expected.

What You'll Do
  • Regularly engage with clients and prospective customers to understand their priorities, assess satisfaction, identify emerging needs, build trusted relationships, and develop and close strategic business opportunities for Interstates in collaboration with contractors, vendors, and alliance partners.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities within the Energy market.
  • Work alongside operations leaders to build growth strategies for the Energy market.
  • Develop and promote strategic partnerships that strengthen Interstates' position in the Energy market.
  • Build a strong network of industry contacts and market knowledge and share that back to the organization.
  • Lead proposal teams by setting clear direction and communicating Interstates' value.
  • Attend Energy-focused trade shows, conferences, and networking events.
  • Coordinate requirements, develop and negotiate contracts, and support the transition from business development to operations.
  • Develop 'win' strategies aligned with Interstates' business objectives.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out

You'll help shape Interstates' growth strategy in a priority Energy market by building relationships across the industry and throughout Interstates.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Shape Interstates' growth strategy in the Energy market.
  • Build partnerships that support this strategic market growth.
  • Lead meaningful opportunities from first conversation through contract award.
  • Work with a collaborative team that values trust, integrity, and safety.
  • Make a visible impact on customers, projects, and communities.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and 7-10 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in business development, sales, market development, engineering, construction, automation, electrical services, energy, or a related industrial field.
  • Strong understanding of the Energy market; Power Generation experience and industry relationships are preferred.
  • Demonstrated success developing new client relationships, opening doors, and pursuing complex business opportunities.
  • Established industry relationships, professional network, and market knowledge within the Energy industry.
  • Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business, technical, and industry information.
  • Ability to define problems, gather information, establish facts, and develop sound conclusions.
  • Confidence presenting information and responding to questions from customers, managers, and industry groups.
  • Willingness and ability to travel based on business needs, with up to 50% travel expected.
