Job description

About Us

Turnover Labs is a Brooklyn-based, early-stage startup developing breakthrough electrochemical systems that help chemical manufacturers capture and reuse their emissions. Our technology converts industrial waste gases directly into valuable chemical products - reducing carbon impact while unlocking new sources of revenue for industrial facilities.

We’re building practical, scalable hardware for a more sustainable industrial future, and are looking for engineers who want to apply their skills to meaningful, technically challenging work in the real world.

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptionally driven, technically grounded Business Development Manager. You will lead customer outreach and discovery, build and cultivate a customer pipeline, validate commercialization hypotheses, develop and manage strategic partnerships, and propose strategies to increase the Turnover’s commercial growth and profitability.

This is not a traditional sales role. You will work directly with the executive team to determine where our technology creates the greatest customer value, translate customer feedback into a long-term product and commercialization strategy, and help coordinate and structure critical pilots/partnerships.

Our ideal candidate must be able to cultivate and maintain credibility among technical, procurement, and business development teams in the chemical, material, and industrial sectors. They will represent Turnover at customer meetings, industry events, and during strategic customer meetings. They must be able to communicate Turnover's technology and value proposition credibly to both technical and executive audiences, and identify opportunities to establish mutually beneficial partnerships through the development of clear proposals, presentations, and commercial materials for customers and partners.

Core Qualifications

Commercial Experience:

  • 4+ years of customer-facing experience in business development, commercialization, project development, strategy or a related role in chemicals, industrial technology, energy or climate technology

  • Proven track record of selling a molecule, product, or process technology into chemical, industrial gas, or energy manufacturing.

  • Previous experience carrying a pipeline from origination through to a signed contract. Inherited accounts will not be considered.

  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering or technical teams to translate customer requirements into executable projects.

Technical Foundation:

  • B.S. or M.S. in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or a related technical field strongly preferred.

  • Candidates must be comfortable discussing basic industrial process conditions, mass and energy balances, plant integration, product specifications, and project economics with both customer engineers and Turnover's technical team.

  • Experience working with chemical manufacturing, industrial gases, electrochemistry, CCUS, hydrogen, fuels, or process equipment. Time spent operating, designing, or working within chemical manufacturing plants or similar manufacturing environments is preferred.

Soft Skills:

  • Commercial judgment - candidates must be able to distinguish high-value opportunities from low-probability distractions, and can delegate time proportionally to high-potential relationships

  • Executive, cross-functional communication - candidates must be able to communicate credibly with plant engineers, business unit leads, technical directors, procurement teams, sustainability executives, and C-suite stakeholders.

  • Ownership and initiative - this role requires candidates to independently move ambiguous opportunities forward, identify blockers, and create clear next steps to progress commercialization.

Preferred Skills and Background
  • Strong understanding of industrial customers and complex B2B commercial relationships.

  • Familiarity with industrial purchasing behaviors, including experience with procurement and qualification processes, knowledge of the merchant chemical markets, and understanding of customer buying trends.

  • Experience in ISCC PLUS, mass balance, book-and-claim, 45Q, LCFS, or RINs.

  • Technical fluency sufficient to directly discuss process requirements, techno-economic analyses, plant integration, and project economics with customers and internal team members.

  • Experience scoping pilots, demonstrations, or first-of-a-kind industrial projects.

  • Experience selling a carbon-differentiated product at a premium, with the ability to explain how the premium was justified internally by the buyer.

Additional Requirements
  • Full-time position, with 20-30% travel primarily for customer meetings, pilot/site visits, industry events, and strategic partner engagements.

  • Hybrid/remote candidates are expected to travel on-site to meet in person with the core team on a regular basis.

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and must maintain ongoing work authorization throughout employment. Turnover Labs is not currently able to sponsor employment visas.

Benefits
  • Base salary range of $115,000 – $130,000 depending on the depth of your technical background and the weight of the pipeline you have carried

  • Performance-based cash incentive tied to commercial milestones in a rapidly growing startup.

  • Complete coverage of Dental, Health, and Vision Insurance.

  • Generous PTO policies.

  • 401(k).

  • Flexible and Accommodating Work Environment.
