Job description

About this Opportunity:

As a Business Development Consultant RIA-Wealth Solutions, a field-based sales leader, you will be responsible for growing Orion Wealth Solutions with independent and hybrid RIA firms across assigned territory. This position owns the Territory’s book of existing RIA wealth relationships and is accountable for inflows, retention and broader solution adoption, including New Producing Advisors (NPAs) who join Orion within the RIA firms served, while cross-selling Wealth Solutions to firms that already rely on Orion’s technology. This is a quota-carrying role. Performance is measured primarily on achievement of an annual Territory’s total inflow budget goal across Orion’s Core and High Net Worth solutions, with asset retention and services goals set in the annual compensation plan. The Territory inflow budget includes transition assets from New Producing Advisors within the RIA firms served. As we continue to evolve and live our Orion values, we are looking for someone to grow with us.

The role lives in territory, based in the Cincinnati or Philadelphia metro, and works in person with RIA owners, executives, investment leaders and advisors. Paired with a dedicated Internal Sales Consultant (Internal) based in Hebron, KY or King of Prussia, PA, the consultant leads the transition of RIA firms from current territory coverage, builds and executes a Territory business plan, and coordinates across Relationship Management, Investments, Trading, Operations, Service and Marketing to turn Orion’s platform and solutions into lasting asset growth.

Role Mandate
Location & Territory
  • Focus: independent RIA firms, including hybrid advisors who maintain their own RIA while keeping a broker-dealer affiliation for brokerage business. Advisors whose advisory business runs through a broker-dealer’s corporate RIA are covered by Orion’s BD channel territory teams.
  • This is a field-based role. You’ll live in the Cincinnati or Philadelphia metro and travel throughout the Territory to meet RIA firms in person.
  • Territory: Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington, DC.
  • You’ll be paired with an Internal Sales Consultant based at the Hebron, KY or King of Prussia, PA office.
  • Expected travel: about 50-60%.
In this role, you’ll get to:
  • Partner with the paired Internal Sales Consultant, Relationship Managers and other key personnel to prioritize qualified opportunities and coordinate client engagement.
  • Drive adoption of Orion Portfolio Solutions (Core and High Net Worth), Custom Indexing, Outsourced Trading, Fixed Income, and OCIO with new independent RIA firms.
  • Grow and retain existing relationships through additional asset flows and broader solution adoption.
  • Identify, sign and transition New Producing Advisors (NPAs) within the RIA firms served, including advisors joining existing client firms and firms newly adopting Wealth Solutions, following Orion’s NPA sales process in partnership with the Internal Sales Consultant.
  • Lead the transition of assigned RIA firms from current territory coverage, partnering with territory teams to ensure continuity.
  • Build relationships with independent RIA owners, executives, investment leaders, and advisors through regular in-person meetings across the Territory.
  • Lead opportunities from discovery and proposal through close and transition to implementation.
  • Coordinate across Relationship Management, Investments, Trading, Operations, Service, and Marketing.
  • Maintain disciplined territory plans, pipeline management, forecasting, and CRM activity.
Measures of Success
  • Results
    • Quota attainment: achievement of the annual Territory inflow budget goal, measured monthly and quarterly against budget.
    • Retention: Territory redemption rate at or better than the Territory’s budgeted rate.
    • High Net Worth growth: HNW Solutions inflows at or above the Territory HNW budget.
    • New firms: number of new independent and hybrid RIA firms adopting Wealth Solutions, and the assets they bring.
    • New Producing Advisors: number of NPAs signed within the RIA firms served, and their transition inflows against the Territory NPA goal.
    • Share of wallet: growth in Orion’s share of assets at existing RIA firms in the Territory.
  • Leading indicators
    • Transition success: firms and assets retained through the handoff from current territory coverage.
    • Technology-to-Wealth conversion: percentage of Orion technology clients in the Territory adopting Wealth Solutions.
    • Multi-solution adoption: number of firms using two or more Wealth Solutions.
    • Pipeline health: qualified pipeline coverage and conversion against the Territory goal.
We’re looking for talent who has:
  • 5+ years in financial services sales, business development, or relationship management; experience selling to independent and hybrid RIAs strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding an individual sales quota or production goal.
  • Strong understanding of investment and wealth management solutions.
  • Proven consultative selling, relationship management, and closing skills.
  • Ability to engage senior decision-makers and advisors.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field.
