The University of Maryland, College Park's English Department seeks a Business Coordinator to manage payroll, appointments, purchasing, travel planning, reimbursements, and account reconciliation.
This role supervises a Business Services Specialist and student workers, ensuring compliance with university policies and reporting to the ARHU-English department.
Job Description Summary Organization Summary Statement: The Business Coordinator is a central position in the English Department and oversees the business services for the department's 200+ employees. The Business Coordinator's primary responsibilities include coordinating payroll and appointments; overseeing purchasing, travel planning and reimbursements/event payment; the creation, maintenance and reconciliation of accounts; and the supervision of a Business Services Specialist and occasional graduate and undergraduate students. In support of these activities, the Business Coordinator must understand and interpret University policies and procedures in the areas of finance, human resources, payroll, purchasing and sponsored programs.
Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: One (1) year of professional human resources, payroll, finance, accounting, procurement, or travel coordination experience. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products. Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Additional Job Details UMD will not sponsor the successful candidate for work authorization in the United States now or in the future. Preferences: Three (3) years of professional human resources, payroll, finance, accounting, procurement or travel coordination experience. Grant management experience. Knowledge of University of Maryland software systems (e.g. Workday, CONCUR). Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
