Business Advisor (Part Time) Sulphur, OK

Salary $25-$28 Hourly

SUMMARY

The core responsibility of this position is to provide small business management counseling and technical services to existing small business owners and new entrepreneurs. The advisor will deliver individual counseling and group training on business management principles, finance, and marketing; identify problem areas in small businesses; develop outreach assistance programs; and build relationships with area lenders and support service providers.

The advisor will develop a diverse client portfolio of existing businesses poised for growth, startups, and preventive clients; demonstrate knowledge of accounting processes and financial statements; provide cash‑flow management and business ratio analysis; and build a network of lenders and funding partners within the assigned region to help clients achieve capitalization goals.

All work conducted by the advisor is strictly confidential and the advisor must sign a Code of Professional Conduct and Conflict of Interest and Ethics Policy annually.

This position is located at the Murray County Extension Center in Sulphur, OK. Work is performed independently. Continuation of employment depends on program/operational needs, satisfactory performance, and availability of funds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage client portfolio through the management information system, ensuring data integrity, updating contact information, recording client session narratives, collecting impact data, and updating business status.
  • Provide management consulting on business plans, strategic planning and financing, marketing, accounting, production, facilities management, and other business areas.
  • Conduct one‑on‑one confidential client consultations, setting and tracking individual consulting goals directed by the State Director and SBA.
  • Deliver training workshops and seminars to enhance consulting efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Training Manager on outreach consultation and training for small communities within the assigned region.
  • Partner with the statewide network team to develop best practices.
  • Prepare required reports for counseling cases, training activities, monthly departmental reports, and other SBA documentation.
  • Work with the State Office to develop promotional and advocacy strategies that create awareness of the SBDC, including public speaking and marketing efforts aligned with SBDC branding guidelines.
  • Travel throughout assigned regional‑county areas and occasionally statewide to deliver training at conferences, meetings, or workshops.
  • Build a diverse client base, including sensitivity to ethnic, socioeconomic, and educational diversity.
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain and grow knowledge, meeting required hours.
  • Meet or exceed all assigned goals and impact metrics (clients served, business starts, capitalization, and jobs supported).
  • Maintain excellent command of English for client file documentation, correspondence, and advocacy.
  • Maintain high‑level relationships with clients, colleagues, partners, and the public.
  • Possess strong interviewing skills, listening, eliciting information, and recommending solutions.
  • Read, understand, and apply guidelines, regulations, policies, and directives.
  • Establish priorities, manage time, meet deadlines, and achieve goals.
  • Work approximately 30 hours per week, with potential overtime for meetings or events.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of small business ownership or business management experience.
  • Knowledge of Oklahoma small‑business principles and requirements.
  • Exceptional customer service and client satisfaction skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with PC, Internet, and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Professional appearance and interpersonal demeanor.
  • Intermediate knowledge of commercial lending, financing, funding, and loan sourcing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting, financial statements, analysis, cash‑flow management, and business ratios.
  • Expertise in a specialty such as International Trade, Financial Analysis, Commercial Lending, Technology, Marketing, Government Contracting, Human Resources, etc.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
PREFERRED
  • Master’s degree in Business Management or a closely related discipline.
  • Five years of business ownership or management experience with finance, payroll, accounting, marketing, and QuickBooks knowledge.
  • Experience as a loan officer or similar business‑lending background.
  • Experience in economic development.
  • Advocacy experience at the local or state level.
  • Knowledge of the business counseling and consulting process.
  • Fluency in Spanish or another language besides English.
