Portland Public Schools Transportation in Portland, Maine seeks a Bus Driver Trainer for a full-year position. You will lead safety and instructional efforts, delivering classroom and behind-the-wheel training to prepare candidate drivers while maintaining high safety standards and excellent service to students.

The role emphasizes mentorship, equipment inspections, and continuous professional growth through district-sponsored training and certifications.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Class B CDL with P and S endorsements for at least two years.
• Clean driving record: 3-year record, up to 2 moving violations in 24 months.
• Ability to pass pre-employment physicals, background checks, drug/alcohol screenings, and lift 50 lbs.
• Strong communication and a student-centered teaching approach.

Responsibilities

• Educate and mentor candidates through classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction for Class B CDL, Air Brake, P, and S exams.
• Teach vehicle pre- and post-trip safety inspections, traffic safety, routing, and student behavior management.
• Administer driver evaluations, supervise road tests, and lead safety meetings.
• Maintain training logs, assist with yard duties, and cover routes or athletic trips as needed.
