Job summary

Altorfer Inc. is seeking a part-time driver to safely transport employees and customers across the Altorfer territory, including Illinois, southeastern Iowa, northern Missouri, and parts of Indiana.

You will be on the road most of the time, with weekday trips and some weekend duties. The role requires a valid Class B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements, a clean driving record, and the ability to load/unload luggage, assist passengers, and maintain logs and vehicle readiness.

Job description

Overview

The driver is responsible for safely transporting employees and customers to and from meetings and events throughout the Altorfer territory, which includes the entire state of Illinois, southeastern Iowa, northern Missouri, and two counties in Indiana. Some trips may require travel outside of the Altorfer territory. Drivers will need to be available for weekday trips and some weekend trips.

Working Hours

Part-time, Monday–Friday (some weekends when needed). Must be flexible to drive with short notice.

Responsibilities
  • Drive vehicles over specified routes or to specified destinations according to time schedules, complying with traffic regulations to ensure that passengers have a smooth and safe ride.
  • Research and plan for traffic, construction, and weather delays. Report delays or accidents.
  • Collect tickets or cash fares from passengers and check identification when required.
  • Assist passengers, such as elderly or disabled individuals, on and off the bus; ensure they are seated properly, help carry baggage, and answer questions about schedules or routes.
  • Load and unload baggage in baggage compartments when needed.
  • Maintain passenger safety: account for all passengers before leaving a location; park at loading areas; ensure passengers are seated and orderly; handle emergencies or disruptions as needed.
  • Keep mileage and repair records up-to-date; record information such as cash receipts and fares; maintain manifest.
  • Inspect the vehicle and check fuel, oil, and water levels prior to departure; add fluids as needed for safe operation; ensure the vehicle is fueled.
  • Make minor vehicle repairs (e.g., air in tires, changing bulbs) and maintain cleanliness of the bus or motor coach.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation for passenger comfort.
  • Maintain, organize, and display beverage and snack inventory before each trip; track and report inventory after each trip.
Qualifications
  • Must have a valid Class B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements, or the ability to acquire one.
  • Ability to maintain a valid license and clean driving record, including:
    • No more than two minor violations in the past three years.
    • No major violations in the past five years.
    • Free of major at-fault accidents.
  • Working knowledge of US Department of Transportation (US DOT) regulations pertaining to commercial vehicle operation.
  • Must remain current with FMCSA regulations and complete/maintain all required documentation; ability to obtain, possess, and maintain a current DOT physical.
  • Defensive driving techniques; ability to remain calm under stress and avoid unsafe decisions.
  • Safely, efficiently operate motor coaches of at least 45 feet in length, as well as other company vehicles, on public highways and private property under all weather conditions.
  • Ability to load and unload baggage and package express items by hand up to 100 pounds, as permitted by tariffs.
  • Post-trip responsibilities: cleaning the bus after each trip, sanitizing passenger areas, cleaning and servicing onboard restrooms as required; external cleaning service may be used with accountability for readiness.
  • Read, write, and speak English fluently. Additional languages are helpful but not required.
  • Ability to perform basic math involving money, weight, volume, distance, and time.
  • Basic computer knowledge and experience.
  • Commitment to friendly, courteous, and professional treatment of all passengers and company personnel.
  • Self-starter with strong organization, customer focus, and communication skills; ability to coordinate activities with others and function as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, personal accountability, and a strong commitment to passenger safety; ability to build positive relationships with customers and coworkers.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

This position is on the road the majority of the time. Travel is about 95% of the time; the remainder is spent around the store. May sit for long periods, stand, walk, bend, squat or kneel, reach above shoulder, push/pull, and lift up to 100 lbs. May answer phones or use a keyboard to communicate via email. Flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Wearing approved safety equipment when required is required.
