The Bus Driver II (Trainer) supports the Transportation Department by providing training, instruction, and performance evaluation for school bus drivers and other district personnel. The role promotes safe and efficient student transportation through classroom instruction, behind‑the‑wheel training, driver assessments, and ongoing professional development. The trainer assists with recruitment and screening, monitors safety data, coordinates required transportation safety programs, and delivers training on equipment, regulations, and best practices. The position serves as a subject‑matter resource for transportation safety and ensures district services comply with applicable laws, regulations, and district standards.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, including school buses, transportation lots, and school or activity locations. Employees are exposed to varying weather conditions, vibration, and changing environmental conditions, including heat, cold, snow, rain, and wet or slippery surfaces.
Essential functions include operating a district vehicle and performing physical tasks with or without reasonable accommodation. The role requires sitting for extended periods while driving, as well as standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching.
Physical requirements may include lifting and dragging up to 60 pounds occasionally, pushing, pulling, or carrying up to 50 pounds, and lifting up to 20 pounds overhead. The position may require assisting students with mobility needs, including operating lifts and securing wheelchairs.
The role requires sufficient manual dexterity and effective communication. Employees must also detect environmental conditions, odors, and safety hazards that may impact operations.
Work schedules may include early morning and afternoon shifts and may vary based on route assignments and operational needs. Employees must pass the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examination and are subject to DOT‑approved substance abuse testing.
