PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To transport students safely and efficiently to and from school on a daily basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Meet all bus driver certification requirements
- Meet state requirements for appropriate licensing
- Meet state physical examination requirements
- Ability to operate all vehicle types used in transporting students
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Operations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- To comply with Motor Vehicle Laws and Regulations of the State Board of Education.
- To adhere to all policies and procedures in the Waynesboro Public Schools Transportation Handbook for Bus Drivers.
- To operate the bus over the assigned route and make no changes unless authorized.
- To wear the driver's safety lap belt if equipped.
- To use a substitute driver approved by the division superintendent when necessary.
- To stop in the right-hand lane for pupil pickup and drop-off at designated stops where the bus is visible from both directions. On divided highways, stops should be arranged to avoid pupils crossing the highway.
- To exercise care for pupils' safety and comfort, ensuring no pupils ride outside the bus or with heads, hands, or arms out of windows.
- To perform daily pre-trip inspections, report repairs needed, and exercise care in bus use.
- To govern the bus speed according to legal limits for school buses.
- To come to a full stop at railroad crossings, listen and look carefully before crossing.
- To maintain discipline and report disobedience to the principal.
- In case of breakdown, to place flags and flares as per law, notify authorities, and keep pupils on the bus until repairs or transfer.
- To refrain from alcohol, tobacco, profanity, and unclean language while on duty, and ensure pupils conduct appropriately.
- To complete all reports, attend meetings, and participate in training sessions as required.
- To be responsible for flags, flares, first-aid kits, and fire extinguishers.
- To prevent objects that restrict passage or emergency exits from being placed on the bus, and keep the floor clear of bottles and loose objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 182-day, 4-hour contract
Bonus: Available after successful CDL licensure and 6 months of service as a bus driver.
