Paulding County Schools Transportation in Dallas, Georgia is seeking substitute Bus Drivers with the potential to move into a regular Bus Driver role as openings arise. Starting as Substitute Bus Drivers, you will complete required driver training and testing in the Transportation Department and may transition to a Bus Driver position at the department's discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a school bus along a designated route.
  • Picks up and discharges general and special education students on schedule.
  • Performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections.
  • Maintains bus in a clean and safe operating condition.
  • Administers first aid to passengers as needed.
  • Keeps passengers orderly and complies with traffic laws.

Job Description

Please note: This position is an “Anticipated Vacancy,” meaning it is not tied to a specific opening at this time. Instead, it provides an opportunity for interested candidates to apply and be considered for future openings as they become available. This allows our hiring managers to build a strong and diverse pool of qualified candidates to consider when positions do become available.

All School Bus Drivers will be initially hired on as Substitute School Bus Drivers and must complete all required driver training and testing through the Paulding County School District Transportation Department. Upon successful completion of the training and testing, candidates will be eligible to work as a Substitute School Bus Driver in the Transportation Department. They will also become eligible to transition to the position of Bus Driver as those positions become available, at the discretion of the Transportation Department.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License and a Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to qualify for a Georgia CDL of appropriate class with Passenger, School Bus and Air Brake Endorsement
  • Must hold or be eligible for a valid CPR/First Aid card
  • Must be able to pass state required drug screening
  • Must pass annual physical examination
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

The Paulding County School District reserves the right to accept alternatives to some of the above requirements

Physical Demands
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information
  • Reaching, pulling and pushing to operate air brake
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to inspect buses
  • Climbing steps
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontally
  • Seeing to monitor passengers and operate a vehicle
  • Lifting a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Repetitive pushing with right leg to operate brake
  • Ability to physically perform evacuation of the bus in the event of an emergency
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of laws, policies and procedures as stated in the Driver Reference Guide
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of school buses to transport students safely and efficiently
  • Performs daily pre and post trip inspections
  • Knowledge of the preparation of a variety of records and reports related to assignment
  • Operates bus using legal safe defensive driving practices
  • Knowledge of district policies and procedures pertaining to student discipline
  • Operate a school bus along a designated route
  • Picks up and discharges general and special education students in accordance with time schedules
  • Assures compliance with applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes and regulations
  • Maintains order and discipline among passengers on the bus and while waiting at bus stops
  • Maintains bus in a clean and safe operating condition
  • Refuels and prepares vehicle for operation
  • Assists handicapped students with boarding, sitting and leaving the bus safely
  • Maintains video surveillance monitor equipment
  • Meets scheduled departure and arrival times as assigned
  • Administers first aid to passengers as needed
