To be certified to drive a school bus for the state of South Carolina, applicants go through a training process that includes classroom instruction and testing, as well as behind‑the‑wheel instruction and testing. They must obtain a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) and a School Bus Certificate. After becoming a school bus driver, every driver must receive annual State Department of Education‑mandated training.
