Job summary

Osborn Elementary District District Office- Maintenance and Transportation in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Bus Driver for a 12-month assignment. The role involves safely operating a school bus, transporting students to and from school and on field trips, and assisting with maintenance tasks.

Experience with commercial passenger vehicles is preferred; a valid Class B license with Passenger and School Bus endorsements is ideal.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Conducts pre-trip inspections; checks tires, brakes, oil and fluids.
  • Drives bus on assigned routes to school and designated trips.
  • Transports students for field trips and sporting events.
  • Operates wheelchair lift; secures wheelchairs and safety restraints.
  • Keeps logs of student conduct; prepares incident reports.
  • Performs post-trip inspections and logs mileage.
  • Assists with maintenance/custodial tasks as needed.
  • Extends year bussing and split shift duties.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Bus Driver safely operates a school bus to transport students to and from school and designated field trips and sports trips.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions: __ Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conducts pre-trip bus inspections; checks tire, breaks, oil and other fluids for proper levels and function; checks emergency equipment and supplies.
  • Drive bus along assigned route to pick up and drop off students at designated areas; transports students for field trips and sporting events; documents the number of students boarding and deboarding the school bus.
  • Operates wheelchair lift; secures wheelchairs, car seats, and safety harnesses for special needs students.
  • Keeps logs of student conduct while aboard the bus; prepares incidents reports and informs parents and appropriate parties as needed.
  • Sweeps and mops the floors of the bus; sanitizes bus seats; cleans windows.
  • Conducts post-trip bus inspection; logs mileage for the day.
  • Participates in biannual school bus evacuation drills.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Operates a school bus along an assigned route. Requires exposure to traffic hazards, various weather conditions, and potentially dangerous cleaning chemicals.

    • Move, lift, stock, stack materials, supplies and equipment
    • Support in deep cleaning of district sites

Job Requirements

Knowledge of

  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • School bus safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Basic first aid.
  • Bus evacuation procedures.
  • Local street names, highways, and geography.

Skill in

  • Operating a school bus safely.
  • Maintaining accurate records and logs.
  • Identifying and mitigating traffic hazards.
  • Preparing clear and concise reports.
  • Interacting tactfully with District staff, students, and parents.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Customer Service principles, practices and etiquette.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

PREFERRED: Two (2) years of experience operating a commercial grade passenger vehicle

(or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.)

Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:

PREFERRED: A valid Class B State driver’s license with Passenger and School Bus endorsement is required. (Training can be provided for those with class D state license)

Training Provided:

CPR and First Aid certified.

NOTE:

  • Must pass ADOT Physical and Drug Screen
  • Please note that this position requires that you are able to obtain an Arizona DPS issues level one Fingerprint Clearance Card. If you do not already have a valid card, we can assist you with rolling your fingerprints for the FBI criminal background check to obtain one at the time of hire.

Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $19.70 to $25.75 Per Hour
