Job summary

The Alabama State Department of Education is seeking a School Bus Driver with a valid Class B CDL to transport students on assigned routes. You must meet state and federal driving standards and pass required screenings and background checks.

You will report to the Transportation Supervisor and the Principal, adhere to a daily schedule, and maintain safety and discipline on board the bus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Alabama Class B CDL with endorsement and acceptable driving record.
• Successful completion of drivers training course meeting state and federal standards.
• Must pass a drug screening test as required by federal, state and local policies.
• Must meet background clearance as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
• Must pass physical.

Knowledge of highway and traffic safety. Ability to operate heavy duty buses in a safe and economical way. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral directions. Ability to exercise appropriate disciplinary techniques. Ability to follow a daily schedule. Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, and school personnel. Ability to tolerate highly stressful situations. Ability to pass a physical exam as required by Alabama State Board of Education Administrative rules. Ability to complete CPR training and certification if required.
