Position Summary
Provide transportation services for university employees, students, visitors, and faculty while ensuring transportation services and passenger safety. Monitors equipment and performs limited maintenance. This is an “On-Call” position and working hours are variable up to and can occasionally exceed 40 hours in one week.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Drives a university-owned bus, providing safe and efficient transportation to the university community and its visitors.
- Performs routine vehicle inspection and maintenance including checking the oil, fuel, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, and water and tire pressures.
- Provides information and other general assistance to the university community and its visitors.
- Maintains DOT approved logbook hours of work performed; makes timely reports of accidents, incidents, and unusual occurrences.
- Must comply with Department of Transportation regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED .
- Experience: Two (2) years paid experience related to duties and responsibilities specified.
- Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
- CDL required.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
- As a CDL driver, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing.
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver’s License ( CDL ) Class A or Class B with a Passenger Endorsement is a requirement for this job.
- Must be willing to respond as needed on an on-call basis.
- Must be willing to routinely work evening, weekends, holidays and odd hours.
- Driving may include Overnight trips and out of State trips.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures;
- Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels;
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate a loaded passenger bus;
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and meet deadlines;
- Ability to work as a team or independently.
Physical Demands
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Pay Rate
Pay Rate $21.32 Hr.
