Responsibilities

• Transport students safely to and from schools on scheduled routes.
• Supervise behavior; ensure students stay seated and hands inside bus windows.
• Assist students getting on/off bus and monitor safety during transit.
• Establish and follow daily bus routes; report maintenance needs.
• Keep bus clean; sweep floor and wash windows.
• Report accidents and complete related forms when needed.
• Ensure students get off at correct stops and contact parents when necessary.
• Maintain radio contact with dispatch during routes.
• Participate in staff development and complete monthly mileage/time reports.
• Obey traffic laws and regulations at all times.

TITLE: Bus Driver

REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma/GED
• A valid SC CDL Driver’s license with safe driving record.
• CPR and First Aid Certified
• Pass physical Performance Test being able to lift at least 50 lbs.
• SC School Bus Driver Certification

JOB GOAL:

The purpose of this classification is to transport students safely and efficiently to and from District schools. Responsible for maintaining a clean and properly working vehicle, and correcting student behavior as needed.

MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. 1) Transport students safely and efficiently to and from District schools; provide transportation for morning and afternoon routes, as well as for special activities and athletics events.
2. 2) Monitor students’ safety; correct students’ behavior as needed; ensure students stay seated on the bus and that hands remain inside the windows at all times; report disciplinary problems.
3. 3)Assist students on and off bus as needed.
4. 4)Establish bus routes on a daily basis.
5. 5)Inspect bus regularly; notify maintenance of any needed bus repairs or issues; report vandalism.
6. 6)Report accidents and complete accident reports and forms if needed.
7. 7) Make sure students get off at their correct stops.
8. 8) Maintain a clean bus; sweep floor, wash windows.
9. 9) Assist students if they become ill during transport.
10. 10) Be prepared to handle any possible emergencies.

PAY SCHEDULE/GROUP: Bus Driver

SUPERVISOR: Director of Transportation

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 days. Salary to be determined by the salary schedule established by the Board.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy by the Director of Transportation.
