Job summary

Tooele County School District is seeking a Bus Attendant to support the Transportation Department in safely loading and unloading students, including those with special needs. The role requires close collaboration with teachers, aides, and drivers to ensure accurate health care plans and smooth operations on Buses.

The position involves supervising students on trips, enforcing safety rules, and preparing incident reports.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Ability to pass Physical Assessment test.
• Prior experience working with special needs children desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist special education students and other passengers for safe loading/unloading from buses.
• Monitor students with special needs until released to teacher, assistant, parent, etc.
• Prepare reports (e.g. incident reports, passenger misconduct) for documentation.
• Report observations/incidents to appropriate personnel for action.
• Secure students and equipment (restrains, wheel chair tie downs, seat belts).
• Accompany students on field trips to assist with supervision.

Bus Attendant

Position Purpose

Under the general direction of the Transportation Department and Special Education Department, employee will help creates an environment that is welcoming and conducive for the success of students and co-workers. Working closely with the departments to ensure students lists including health care plans for buses are updated and correct information given to drivers and attendants on busses.

Essential Job Functions

• Assists special education students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations.
• Attends unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. as required for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
• Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining student safety and well being.
• Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. for purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
• Prepares reports (e.g. incident reports, passenger misconduct, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and/or complying with established guidelines.
• Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of comunicating information to appropriate personnel for their action.
• Secures students and/or their equipment (e.g. restraints, wheel chair tie down, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
• Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.

Additional Duties:

• Performother related duties as assigned for thepurpose of ensuringthe efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

• Ability to pass Physical Assessment test same as bus drivers(e.g. able to lift 40 lbs, drag a 120 lb object walking backwards).
• Works in standard office and school bus environment
• Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

Qualifications Profile

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Ability to pass Physical Assessment Test
• Prior experience working with special needschildren desirable

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Contract:

9 months (potential for additional summer hours)
30 + hoursper week
