Bus Aide (Part-Time) – 2026-2027 School Year

Position: Bus Aide (part‑time) Location: Student Transportation Center, Omaha, Nebraska Reports To: Director, Student Transportation Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 185 duty days as per negotiated agreement – Non‑exempt Salary Schedule: $19.25 per hour Schedule: 5.5‑hour block schedules; Monday‑Friday; split shift required Starting Date: June 29, 2026 Job ID: 5804599

Position Purpose

The Bus Aide’s primary responsibilities are to assist the driver and respond to student needs while aboard the vehicle. Duties include loading, monitoring, and unloading students while following established protocols for student safety.

Minimum Job‑Related Qualifications
  • Minimum 19 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Successful completion of pre‑employment functional capacity evaluation, physical and drug/alcohol screening
  • Completion of the Student Transportation Bus Aide Training Program (First Aid/CPR)
  • Attendance at the Bus Aide Training Class
  • Understanding and willingness to comply with the practices and procedures cited in the Handbook for Transportation Employees

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Assist in safely transporting students, including those with special needs, to and from designated locations
  • Follow oral and written directions accurately
  • Maintain control of student passengers within the necessary parameters for student safety, consistent with school district policy
  • Serve as a positive role model for youth
  • Continuously acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or conducting research
  • Work with and understand a diverse student population
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Additional Duties

Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment & Travel
  • Position may require use of levers, lifts, mechanical tools, and cleaning supplies
  • Local travel will be required

Employee Punctuality and Appearance
  • Employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours unless approved leave is received
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator
  • Employees must report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position
Terms of Employment

This classified part‑time non‑exempt position is governed by state laws regulating employment in Nebraska public schools, Board of Education policies, and collective bargaining agreements. The offer of employment is contingent upon providing verification of all required licenses and certificates, passing background, U.S. citizenship or legal authorization checks, pre‑employment drug testing, random drug testing, tuberculosis skin testing if required, and a pre‑employment medical examination.
