Job Description
  • Position Title: Bus Aide DW2627_20 Start Date: August 26, 2026

  • Pay Type: Hourly .5 FTE
  • Pay Grade: Classified
  • Reports to: Director of Student Achievement/Special Programs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Responsible for maintaining and supervising student conduct on school buses.
  • Responsible for assisting the bus driver with special needs equipment, including lifts for wheelchairs.
  • Responsible for assisting the bus driver in loading and unloading students, and as requested.
  • Reporting disciplinary problems to the bus driver and/or transportation supervisor.
  • Only minimum duties are listed; other functions may be required as given or assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Work history demonstrating dependability and reliability; good driving record; high school diploma or equivalent; or any combination of training and experience likely to provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions of the assigned bus driver and/or the transportation supervisor.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff; ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student matters; ability to manage students with disciplinary problems.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board policies.
  • Ability to use wheelchair lifts and other special needs equipment, two-way radio, telephone/voice mail.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Regularly works outside; directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students; will occasionally walk on slippery surfaces.
  • Noisy environment, usually moderate to loud.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand; must bend or twist at the neck and waist and reach above the head; must use hand strength to grasp equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities: close, distance, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 100 pounds.
MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS
  • Rarely performs routine work; frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another); guidance and reinforcement infrequently available; works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity.
