Job summary

JBS USA is seeking a Burmese interpreter to facilitate clear communication between English and Burmese-speaking team members at the Plainwell facility. You will translate conversations, interviews, and training materials to support production operations and safety.

Responsibilities include attending meetings as translator, translating policies and forms, and maintaining confidentiality while working in a fast-paced meat processing environment. Some weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Fluent in English and Burmese, able to translate spoken and written content accurately.
• Proficient in interpretation with a focus on medical terminology.
• Strong attention to detail and professional integrity.
• Basic computer literacy is required for translation tasks.

Responsibilities

• Translate between English and Burmese in conversations and documents.
• Attend meetings as the official translator and mediate discussions.
• Translate advertisements, rules, policies, and investigation reports as needed.
• Use translation software and maintain confidentiality of information.
• Support new employee orientation with language assistance.
• Maintain presence in production areas to facilitate communication on the floor.

Plainwell is the only JBS plant with Modified Atmospheric Packaging (MAP), a packaging process that changes oxygen levels to extend shelf-life. The MAP process is a part of the Plainwell ground beef operation. Plainwell is also one of the few plants that produces ground beef patties. Over one million lbs (450,000 kg) of beef are produced each day. The Plainwell facility produces biogas in an anaerobic lagoon and uses it in place of natural gas to heat a portion of the water used in the plant. The facility was recognized by the American Meat Institute as a Tier 3 facility for its accomplishments with ISO 14001. Plainwell recently built a $31 million distribution center (85,000 ft²) with a 55,000 box capacity.

BURMESE INTERPRETER

Position Title: Interpreter (English & Burmese)

Reports to: Human Resources/Training

Shift/Work Days: 1st Shift

Responsible for listening to, understanding, and translating spoken or written statements from one language to another.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate effective communication between two parties that do not speak a similar language by converting one spoken or written language to another.
• Attend meetings and act as official translator to mediate discussion.
• Relay concepts and ideas between languages.
• Convert written materials and conversations from one language into another, such as advertisements, rules, policies and investigation reports.
• Employ computer-assisted translation.
• Facilitate communication for people with limited English proficiency.
• Translate information for applicants during interviews and with hiring paperwork.
• Assist the clinic with the translation of medical information and Safety.
• Serve as backup for all facets of new employee orientation.
• Maintain highest levels of confidentiality.
• Provide immediate assistance to line supervisors.
• Make a strong presence in both fabrication and slaughter operations/floor.

• Other duties as needed and assigned.

• Comfortable working in cold/hot temperatures and stand 10-12 hours/ day
