Job summary

PCL Solar Constructors USA Inc. in Rochelle, Georgia leads the commissioning of utility-scale solar projects across North America. The role involves coordinating multidisciplinary teams, reviewing designs and specifications, and ensuring safe, compliant project completion.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of progressive experience in mechanical/electrical construction.
• Commissioning experience in utility-scale solar project construction preferred.
• Knowledge of building codes and contract requirements.

Responsibilities

• Reviews overall concept design and detailed layout.
• Oversees commissioning activities on solar projects in North America.
• Advises with PV and HV testing and commissioning performance testing.
• Works with utilities and grid operators on connection and energization docs.
• Ensures site operates in compliance with local and federal requirements.
• Develops commissioning plans and manuals; supports project execution.

Travel is required as this position will be located at one of our projects with locations including: Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Ohio, and other states.
Per-diem is available to help cover temporary living expenses for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria. Depending on project availability, once your time on this project ends, you may be transferred to the next project in a different state.

Here’s how a Commissioning Manager for PCL Solar Constructors USA Inc. within Solar USA contributes to our team:

• Reviews overall concept design, detailed layout and DC electrical design.
• Reviews and understands the contract, technical specifications, commissioning requirements, and subcontracts, including understanding risk and risk mitigation plans.
• Oversees commissioning activities on solar projects in North America.
• Advises with troubleshooting during PV and HV testing and performance testing during commissioning.
• Works with local utilities and grid operators with the development of connection and energization documentation.
• Works with regulators to ensure site is commissioned and operating in compliance with any local or federal requirements.
• Assist with development of manuals and commissioning plans documentation.
• Attend site walks, commissioning kick off meetings and training sessions, and provide technical assistance during project execution as required.
• Responsible for building and growing the PCL in-house commissioning team and expanding capabilities through training and new hires.
• Works closely with HSE on the development and standardization of safe work practices, lock out tag out procedures, and task specific job hazard analysis.
• Assist with project administration correspondence and complies with documentation requirements relevant to solar farm installation and construction projects.
• Identifies and discerns root causes associated with design nonconformances and commissioning related deficiencies and reports to project team.
• Stays current with industry practices and technologies and seeks new and innovative construction methods and processes.
• Networks with industry contacts to determine PCL’s competitive advantage.
• Assists in collecting and analyzing historical information and benchmarks.
• Identifies success stories and lessons learned and shares with estimating and project team for continuous project life cycle improvement.
• Develops and maintains strong customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders.
• Values and models the solution provider and profitability culture.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Tradesperson or postsecondary diploma/degree in a related discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, controls) is preferred.
• 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical/electrical construction. Commissioning experience in utility-scale solar project construction preferred.
• Intermediate knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, principles, and practices.
• Experience with reviewing trade contractors’ progress billings and assessing for accuracy.
• Ability to facilitate the coordination of mechanical, electrical, architectural, civil, and structural drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of basic construction law and ability to apply building codes as required.
• Understanding of different types of contract delivery methods.
• Ability to manage contractual obligations and responsibilities
• Uses effective verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
