Job summary

Selectek in Greenville, SC is seeking a Building Systems Engineering Project Manager I to coordinate and manage multidisciplinary teams on a range of building system projects. The role reports to a Senior Project Manager or Principal and mentors junior staff while handling multiple small to mid-size projects.

The position emphasizes collaboration across mechanical, electrical, plumbing disciplines, with a focus on design excellence, client relations, and delivering cost-effective outcomes.

Qualifications

  • BS (and/or MS) in a related field or equivalent experience and skills.
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of engineering experience.
  • Professional licensure is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of building systems engineering fundamentals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate across building design disciplines (architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, structural).
  • Develop project scopes, objectives, timelines, and allocate team resources.
  • Lead client vision sessions and manage project progress through all phases.
  • Assist with proposals and marketing efforts to grow the company’s business.
  • Manage project finances including billing, invoices and asset allocation.
  • Perform QA/QC on team outputs and verify methodologies and results.
  • Recruit, retain and mentor team members and coordinate workload.

Job Overview

Needed immediately in Greenville, SC: The Building Systems Engineering Project Manager I coordinates and manages the work of other professionals, providing practical, inspired designs for building system projects ranging widely in scope. Reporting to a designated Senior Project Manager or Principal, the role works independently and oversees the work of others. This person nurtures strong working relationships with clients and provides oversight throughout all project phases, serving as a mentor, teacher, and advisor to junior team members. The project manager handles multiple, small to medium‑size projects of moderate complexity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Keep abreast of new scientific methods and developments affecting the organization and recommend beneficial changes.
  • Coordinate across a variety of building design disciplines, including architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural.
  • Manage project personnel and processes:
    • Develop project scopes and objectives, coordinating all administrative and technical efforts to achieve gainful and cost‑effective outcomes.
    • Establish short‑ and long‑term goals, create appropriate timelines, and assign specialized teams.
    • Schedule, lead, and attend client vision sessions.
    • Assist with project proposals and marketing efforts to grow the company’s business.
    • Manage project finances, including billing, invoice generation, and asset/resource allocation.
    • Perform quality assurance/control on others’ work, verifying methodologies, calculations, and outcomes.

  • Supervisory responsibilities:
    • Recruit, retain, and develop talent, managing team member allocation and assessing strengths to organize workload assignments.
    • Supervise, coordinate, and review work schedules, assigning tasks to meet completion dates.
    • Engage and foster growth of the team through encouragement, regular feedback, and mentoring at all levels.
    • Conduct career conversations on an established schedule (annual career conversations, regular check‑ins, and development of career plans for each team member).
  • Core competencies include collaboration, effective communication, customer focus, financial acumen, and building trust.
Qualifications
  • BS (and/or MS) in a related field, or equivalent experience and skills.
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of engineering experience.
  • Professional licensure (preferred).
  • Professional degree in a related field or a combination of skills and experience.
  • Deep understanding of foundational principles of building systems engineering.
  • Ability to foster a creative engineering environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work across a wide range of areas within the building systems engineering discipline.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and other specialty‑critical software, as well as the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and juggle critical tasks, seeing them through to completion while maintaining high design standards and adhering to established project timelines.
