Orange County Public Schools seeks a skilled maintenance worker to perform corrective and scheduled maintenance across multiple craft disciplines in district facilities. Responsibilities include concrete work, drywall repairs, ceiling installations, door hardware, and equipment inspections, with focus on safety and reliability.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with vocational training and at least three years in related trades; Florida CDL preferred.
Salary Schedule
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform corrective and scheduled maintenance in various craft disciplines. Work may involve the use of diverse maintenance skills and knowledge depending on the specific assignment to be performed. Essential tasks as outlined herein are performed according to the functional area of assignment at locations within the respective regional learning communities or other district locations. Performs related work as directed.

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training in building maintenance and three (3) years of experience and/or training that includes knowledge and skills in the associated trade disciplines, with demonstrated ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid Florida (CDL) commercial driver’s license preferred.
Effective August 24, 2009, all new hires to this position must successfully complete the Industrial Physical Capability Screening (IPCS); previous incumbents holding this position without a break in service are not required to have this screening.
Data Utilization Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data and/or information. Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships.
Human Interaction Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others on how to apply procedures and standards to specific situations.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization Requires the ability to overhaul, restore, renovate, construct, and/or rebuild equipment, machinery, or objects, requiring adherence to prescribed standards and specifications.
Verbal Aptitude Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive and/or design data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages, may include ability to perform mathematical operations involving basic algebraic principles and formulas, and basic geometric principles and calculations.
Functional Reasoning Requires ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
Situational Reasoning Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
Physical Ability Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
Sensory Requirements Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, perceive and discriminate depths, and visual perception and discrimination.
Environmental Factors Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, strong odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, electric currents, and toxic/poisonous agents.
