Job summary

City of Laredo is seeking a Building Plans Examiner to review plans for building code and ordinance compliance, issue permits, and coordinate with Planning, Fire, Engineering, and Utilities.

The role requires an Associate degree or 60 college hours, five years in building-related fields, and ICC Residential Plans Examiner Certification within 12 months; a Texas Driver License is required, along with background checks.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 60 college hours in Building Science, Architecture, or related field.
• At least five years of experience in Building Construction, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
• ICC Residential Plans Examiner Certification must be obtained within twelve months of employment.
• Valid Texas Driver License.
• Background check and certified transcripts required; pre-employment drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Reviews building plans/applications for building code and ordinance compliance.
• Issues building permits.
• Conducts pre-permit inspections, post-permit inspections, and pre-con inspections.
• Assists in maintaining communication between staff, visitors and other contacts.
• Explains correction comments and review findings.
• Coordinates review comments and consolidates feedback for applicants.
• Participates in meetings/workshops/open houses as needed.
• Provides technical assistance to architects, engineers, contractors, developers and the public.
