Job summary

The Town of Cheshire is seeking a Building Official to enforce the Connecticut State Building Code and oversee construction, safety and maintenance of all town buildings and structures.

Required are a high school diploma, CT licensure, and 5+ years in construction/design/supervision; an Associate Degree in Building Technology is preferred. Salary ranges from $110,000 to $132,000 per year, with an Equal Opportunity Employer statement.

Qualifications

• High school graduate.
• Associate Degree in Building Technology preferred.
• State licensure as Building Official required by CT regulations.
• Minimum five (5) years’ experience in construction, design or supervision of buildings.
• Up to two years as Assistant Building Official or one year as Provisional Building Official may substitute for experience.
• Knowledge of CBBC, building materials, fire prevention, safe exits, and occupant safety requirements.
• Licensure as Building Official must be completed after one year if holding Provisional license.
• Ability to manage office and personnel; maintain effective relations with owners, contractors and the public.

• Ensure compliance with Connecticut State Building Code for construction methods and materials.
• Regulate location, use/occupancy and maintenance of all town buildings and structures.
