Job summary

Aoka in San Antonio, TX seeks a Certified Building Official to lead a team of inspectors, oversee municipal code enforcement, and serve as a subject matter expert for the sales team, making a tangible impact on construction quality and safety.

You will supervise inspections, manage permits and plan approvals, interpret complex codes, and collaborate across departments to ensure compliance and safety in all projects.

Qualifications

  • ICC Certified Building Official (CBO) is required.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in building inspection.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex code-related issues under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise building inspectors and manage inspection programs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert supporting the sales team.
  • Conduct client visits for complex or escalated projects.
  • Administer and enforce municipal, state, and federal building codes, safety, energy, and accessibility standards.
  • Oversee issuance of building permits, plan approvals, occupancy certificates, and inspection reports.
  • Interpret complex codes and provide guidance to architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners.
  • Collaborate with fire, planning, zoning, engineering, and public works departments for coordinated code enforcement.
  • Manage appeals, code updates, and ordinance revisions.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on inspections, permitting, and code compliance.
