Job summary

Aoka is seeking a Certified Building Official (CBO) in Houston to lead a team of building inspectors and serve as a subject matter expert for our sales team. You will influence code enforcement practices and ensure high-quality construction, safety, and compliance across projects.

The role requires 5–7 years in building inspection, strong leadership, and excellent communication. Expect to supervise programs, oversee permits, and collaborate with multiple city departments.

Qualifications

• ICC Certified Building Official (CBO) is required.
• 5–7 years of progressive experience in building inspection.
• Proven leadership and supervisory experience.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex code-related issues under pressure.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise building inspectors and manage inspection programs.
• Serve as a subject matter expert supporting the sales team.
• Conduct client visits as needed for complex or escalated projects.
• Administer and enforce municipal, state, and federal building codes, safety, energy, and accessibility standards.
• Oversee issuance of building permits, plan approvals, occupancy certificates, and inspection reports.
• Interpret complex codes and provide guidance to architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners.
• Collaborate with fire, planning, zoning, engineering, and public works departments for coordinated code enforcement.
• Manage appeals, code updates, and ordinance revisions.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on inspections, permitting, and code compliance.
