Job summary

Job description

Building Facilities Manager

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for full-time Building Facilities Manager to support the federal government. The candidate will be responsible for improving customer satisfaction with building services, maintaining or lowering operational costs, and ensuring the provision of quality facility related services.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinating all on‑site building operations, maintenance, alterations, cleaning, recycling, concessions, safety, environmental, and security activities. Point of contact with customer agency personnel in designated customer owned or leased buildings.
  • Receiving written or oral customer requests for service, complaints, and other issues and coordinating appropriate action or resolution (custodial or maintenance service calls, security, coordination of emergency responses, reimbursable activities, contractor coordination and scheduling, conference facilities, concessions, and parking).
  • Investigating, determining, and coordinating the need for repairs or enhancement projects in federal or leased buildings.
  • Analyzing and monitoring the impact on building systems and equipment to determine facility capability in meeting customer needs.
  • Preparing reviews and/or lifecycle condition analyses and integrating requirements into a scope of work for the project.
  • Preparing specifications, estimates and monitoring repairs by contractors to all items of operating equipment and utilities including electrical, water supply, sewage, and other systems.
  • Participating as the on‑site representative of ownership, handling tenant relations, building operations and maintenance, property improvement, tenant build‑buts, expense management, contract administration, and staff supervision.
Required Education
  • 3‑5 years of experience as a technical specialist/advisor for all construction, mechanical, and building service needs.
  • Experience with building operations and maintenance contractors, janitorial, landscaping, and related trades for complex commercial office buildings.
  • Experience managing multiple projects across government owned and leased buildings.
  • Participation in in‑house and on‑the‑job training to maintain technical proficiency or required certifications (mechanical, electrical, plumbing). Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business Administration, Management or a related field.
Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of CostWorks, Microsoft Office Suite, and project software. Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with HVAC systems.
  • Understanding of construction processes, reading drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Ability to organize and administer overall building operations of a Class "A" office building.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self‑starter, driven, able to work with limited direction under target timelines.
  • Collaborative personality; works effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to motivate and discipline as necessary.
  • Facilitates open communication.
Work Environment
  • Work sitting or standing at a desk or conference table for extended periods, with the ability to shift positions as needed.
  • Walk in the office to collaborate with co‑workers, attend meetings, or retrieve documents from the printer.
  • Ability to carry up to 10 pounds as needed.
