Job summary

The Pascua Yaqui Tribe is seeking a Building Maintenance Worker to perform unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work across tribal facilities, including buildings and grounds. The role encompasses carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, custodial tasks, and basic construction duties.

The ideal candidate will hold a High School Diploma or GED with some maintenance experience, possess a valid Arizona driver's license, and be able to work non-traditional hours if required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with six months of building maintenance experience.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred; Yaqui language an asset but not required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled and manual building maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, grounds, and custodial work.
  • Maintain and repair lighting fixtures, switches, motors, sensors, fuses, thermostats, and ballasts; repair plumbing fixtures and leaks; service HVAC filters and components.
  • Set up rooms/events, lift/move equipment and materials; follow safety procedures and use safety equipment; support various tribal projects as needed.

Job Summary

The Building Maintenance Worker will be responsible for performing unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work associated with maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, grounds, and related tribal facilities.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities


  • Perform semi-skilled and manual work involving building maintenance, minor carpentry, painting, mechanical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, grounds maintenance or custodial maintenance projects.

  • Perform various tasks involving routine maintenance of electrical systems: maintain and repair lighting fixtures and switches; replace motors, switches, motion sensors, timers, photocells, fuses, thermostats, bulbs, and ballasts.

  • Perform various tasks involving routine maintenance of plumbing systems: install/repair plumbing fixtures and components; clear water lines, drains and toilets; repair plumbing leaks; repair/replace faucets, traps and disposals.

  • Perform various tasks involving routine maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems: cleans/replaces filters; and replaces parts as needed.

  • Perform various tasks involving general building maintenance or construction projects: remove, repair, and replace floor/ceiling tile; repair doors and hardware; replace windows, doors and glass panes; construct or assemble tables, cabinets, shelving or furniture.

  • Perform various general manual tasks in support of departments or tribal projects/functions: erect signs and flags; set up rooms and areas for meetings or events; lift or move equipment, furniture, and heavy materials; load, transport and unload equipment and materials.

  • Follow safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals: places safety cones, markers, signs to alert employees/citizens of work areas, wet floors, other potential hazards, lock/secure chemical storage areas.

  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Hand tools, power tools and materials used in all facets of building maintenance and construction work;

  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions;

  • Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.


Skills and Abilities


  • Techniques of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and general heating and cooling equipment maintenance and minor repair work;

  • Exercise care in the use of various chemicals used in building maintenance;

  • Follow verbal and written instructions;

  • Operate powered equipment;

  • Lift or move objects up to 75 pounds;

  • Work outside in varying weather conditions;

  • Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.


Education, Certifications and Experience Required

High School Diploma or GED and six (6) months experience in general building maintenance.


Additional Requirements


  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Yaqui language an asset but not required

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License.


Special Requirements


  • This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends.

  • Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination from this position.
