City of Cleveland is seeking an Interim Building Inspector to perform on-site inspections of residential and commercial structures under supervision of the Commissioner of Code Enforcement. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with local and state building codes during construction and related activities.
Candidate must hold Ohio OBBS certifications, a valid OH driver's license, and have substantial experience in building inspections and code enforcement.
(Formerly Code Enforcement Inspector I, II, and III) Under supervision of the Commissioner of Code Enforcement, makes inspections of residential and commercial buildings and structures, or any appurtenances connected or attached to such buildings or structures in the course of construction for the purposes of ensuring compliance with laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations relating to the construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, removal and maintenance. Performs related duties as required that pertain to enforcement of the Cleveland Housing, Building, and Zoning Codes as well as the Ohio Building and Residential Codes.(Note: this classification utilizes the working titles of Building Inspector I, II, III, and IV, depending on the certifications held. Also, employees must be in each level at least one year before going on to the next level.)
A High School Diploma or GED is required. A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required. A State of Ohio Board of Building Standards (OBBS) certification as a Building Inspector and OBBS certification as a Residential Building Inspector are required. Must have and maintain certifications throughout employment. One of the following is required: Three years of full time paid experience as a construction contractor or supervisor for non-residential buildings or structures within the scope of groups regulated by the rules of the board OR; three years of full time paid experience as a skilled tradesman for work subject to inspection under a model building code organization or a code adopted for non-residential buildings or structures within the scope of groups regulated by the rules of the board, or experience as specified in section 103.3.3(2) OR; successful completion of a trainee program pursuant to section 103.3.9.
