Job summary

The City of Vacaville is hiring a Building Inspector to inspect structures at different construction stages, ensuring compliance with Title 24 and local regulations. You will communicate with the public, contractors and builders and may assist in joint inspections with other City departments.

Ideal candidates bring a background in construction, familiarity with building codes, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a collaborative team.

Qualifications

  • Education equivalent to twelfth grade with related coursework.
  • Three years of journey level experience in building/construction fields.
  • Possession of an ICC Building Inspector or Combination Inspector certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect all types of building structures at various construction stages for code compliance.
  • Ensure safety in accordance with Title 24 regulations and local rules.
  • Provide information to the public, contractors and builders and assist in joint inspections.
  • Support in inspections with other City departments as needed.

The Building Inspector is an exciting and dynamic position. It is responsible for inspecting all types of building structures at various stages of construction for compliance with applicable Title 24 regulations, State statutes, local regulations, and ensuring safe construction in accordance to approved plans. The Building Inspector also provides information related to the building and inspection process to the public, contractors and builders and may assist in joint inspections with other City departments.

The City of Vacaville invites applications for the position ofBuilding Inspector. Currently,(1) vacancyexists in the Community Development Department. This recruitment process will create an eligibility list for this position which can be used to fill other vacancies, within this classification, that may develop in the next twelve (12) month period.

Salary Information: $86,569- $105,225/Annually

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by college level coursework in construction technology, engineering, architecture, or other related field.

Experience Three years of journey level experience in one or more major construction fields such as building, electrical or plumbing.

License or Certificate Possession of a Building Inspector Certificate or Combination Inspector Certificate issued by the International Code Council (ICC), or other recognized agency, is a condition of passing probation.

Possession of a valid Class C or higher California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
