Under direction from higher-level building inspectors, the Building Inspector inspects buildings and structures to see that construction or alteration work is being done according to approved plans and in accordance with the provisions of building codes; and does related work as required.

Pertinent building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and zoning codes and ordinances; proper construction methods in building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work; and general Safety Orders.
Understand and interpret technical codes and ordinances; read and interpret building construction plans and specifications; maintain records and prepare progress reports; and work tactfully and effectively with other City personnel, building contractors, workers and the public.
