The City of Conroe is seeking a skilled Building Inspector to conduct inspections on commercial and residential construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. The role requires strong customer service while interacting with contractors and the public.

The Building Inspector is a skilled technical position that conducts inspections on commercial and residential construction projects; compares construction to the construction plans to ensure construction projects are compliant with all of the provisions of the building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and related codes, the specific standards of materials, workmanship and safety, and the code within the City ordinances. This position is expected to maintain the highest level of customer service while engaging with contractors, homeowners, the general public and other city departments. This position reports directly to the Building Official.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and three years related experience; or equivalent education and experience. Associate's degree preferred.
Special Requirements: ICC Certification as Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical or Combination Inspector or two years special training in municipal inspections is preferred. Master Electrician license and/or a Master Plumber license preferred. Must have a Plumbing Inspector license issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners or must be able to obtain within one year. Possession of a valid Texas "Class C" driver license or higher.
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
