Job summary

UG2 in Boston seeks a Building/HVAC Technician to support operations of a state-of-the-art life science campus. You will oversee inspections, maintenance, and repairs of mechanical, electrical, and control systems, and participate in system design discussions.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in MEP with strong HVAC, electrical, and BMS knowledge, and are ready for after-hours on-call emergencies. Competitive benefits and parking are offered.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, plus three to five years of related experience.
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude with large tonnage HVAC equipment is required.
  • Deep understanding of the building management system (BMS).
  • MA refrigeration license preferred; Universal CFC certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Share knowledge with maintenance team to improve performance.
  • Diagnose and trend facilities systems via BMS.
  • Troubleshoot HVAC equipment and controls, perform repairs.
  • Perform pump rebuilds to ensure HVAC operation.
  • Maintain boilers, heating, cooling systems and associated equipment.
  • Respond to service requests for HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and general repairs.
  • Communicate status of work to owner or supervisor.
  • Support projects with technical material lists and planning.

Job description

SUPPORT SUMMARY:
This role will be critical in the operational delivery and support of a state-of-the-art life science campus. This role will be a point of contact for the building owners and a contributor to system design and functionality discussions. This first—class operation starts with its supporting team members and provides a collaborative, positive, and technically challenging environment that champions professional growth and mentorship.

MAJOR FUNCTION:
The Building/HVAC Technician provides vital support for building operations and maintenance, ensuring smooth functioning and continuing operation. This role involves inspections, testing, repair, and preventative maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and automatic temperature control equipment. Additionally, this role will assist in system design and functionality discussions and be an integral part of a growing team.

Job Responsibilities
  • Share knowledge and best practices with maintenance team members to strengthen overall performance.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and trend facilities systems and status through the building management system.
  • Troubleshoot HVAC equipment and controls to identify problems and perform necessary repairs.
  • Perform pump rebuilds and replacements to ensure consistent operation of HVAC and building systems.
  • Foster strong contractor and vendor relationships.
  • Inspect, adjust, modify, and repair all types of boilers, heating systems, cooling systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Conduct repair and preventative maintenance of equipment, systems, and facilities in line with operation manuals, diagrams, sketches, and manufacturers' specifications to increase reliability and useful life.
  • Provide initial response, triage, stabilization, and/or repair for all types of building infrastructure maintenance requests, with an emphasis on HVAC systems.
  • Conduct daily operation, maintenance, inspection, and repairs of the building's Energy Management System, Building Automated System, and Fire Safety System.
  • Carry out daily/weekly tours of mechanical spaces, tenant/public areas, roofs, and building
  • Respond promptly to service calls/tenant requests including HVAC, plumbing, lighting, escorts, general carpentry & painting duties, key making, picture hanging, and moving furniture and equipment safely.
  • Effectively communicate with the owner, owner’s representative, or supervisor on the work performed and the present status of the mechanical system.
  • Stay updated on changes in field safety and codes through seminars and other educational means.
  • Provide technical support for projects and develop materials lists for ordering.
  • Respond swiftly to emergencies, troubleshoot, and repair issues.
  • Perform general housekeeping of mechanical/electrical rooms, including sweeping, mopping, and painting.
  • Carry out routine repairs related to Carpentry, and general maintenance and assist all other trades as required.
  • Completes work following UG2's Standard Operating Procedures and Work instructions.
  • On-call rotation to serve as primary contact for site emergencies.
Requirements (Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Education and/or Experience)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, plus three to five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude with large tonnage HVAC equipment is required.
  • Must be able to change refrigeration compressors, service cooling towers, rebuild or replace large centrifugal pumps, service & repair VAV boxes, troubleshoot and repair energy management controls and programming.
  • Must have deep understanding in the use of the building management system.
  • Wastewater Treatment License or the ability to achieve within six months.
  • Building Automation System experience.
  • The ability to act as the Lead Engineer, when required.
  • Reliable and professional.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
  • Basic math skills, including algebra and geometry.
  • Basic computer skills including internet usage, email systems, electronic manuals, and online learning.
  • Minimum of three to five years of hands-on experience in the MEP field.
  • Ability to complete the required company training.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Great communicator and positive personality.
  • Eager to grow within a team and to understand in-depth critical building systems.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Active MA refrigeration license is preferred.
  • Universal CFC Certification is preferred.
  • MEP licensure is preferred.
  • MEP certifications are preferred.
  • OSHA preferred.
  • Hot Work certified, preferred.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, remain stationary for extended periods of time, and perform daily physical activity including, but not limited to, climbing ladders, navigating multiple sets of stairs, and moving from room to room to inspect the physical condition of the building as required.
Availability to respond to after-hours emergencies as necessary.
