Job summary

SOCOTEC, Inc. in Redmond, WA seeks a Building Enclosure Consultant or Senior Consultant to lead design, detailing, analysis, and field oversight for envelope performance projects.

You will advise clients, prepare construction documents, and coordinate with architects and engineers, with travel ~30% as needed.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of building enclosure consulting and project management.
• Experience with exterior curtain wall, window wall and envelope systems.
• Knowledge of local building codes and permit processes.
• Ability to prepare construction documents and reports.

Responsibilities

• Lead building enclosure design, detailing and analysis; oversee testing, fabrication and construction administration.
• Advise architects, owners, contractors and managers on enclosure performance and constructability.
• Conduct/oversee field reviews and progress inspections on designated projects.
• Prepare assessment reports for existing structures including root-cause analysis and repair recommendations.
• Document and maintain well-written reports from proposal through project completion.
• Ensure familiarity with local codes and provide status updates to management on performance and schedules.
• Communicate effectively with clients and project teams; manage relationships.
• Produce details via hand sketching and CAD (2D/3D) as required.
• Provide cross-functional support to meet client needs and timelines.
• Break down technical deliverables and assist in budget management.
• Provide manpower updates and assess resource availability; mentor junior staff.
• Present white papers or case studies to technical teams as needed.
• Manage staff or team and foster training/mentoring.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

• Undertake building enclosure design, detailing and analysis, and participate in testing, fabrication and construction administration.
• Advise architects, owners, contractors, developers and property managers (clients) on building enclosure performance, constructability, and durability.
• Conduct/oversee field review and progress inspection on designated projects.
• Conduct/oversee assessment reports for existing structures which may include some root cause analysis and repair recommendations.
• Document and maintain well written reports on project related activity, including existing conditions, in construction progression of work from initial proposal though completion.
• Ensure familiarity with building codes in local markets.
• Advise management on related project performance\key issues, status, scheduling, effort of work and estimates for completion.
• Communicate effectively and establish relationships with clients and job-related management teams
• Produce details via hand sketching and using 2D and 3D CAD packages as required.
• Providecross-functional support to ensure client needs and internal timelines/project activities are completed.
• Break down technical needs\deliverable; assist in managing budgetary project requirements.
• Provide manpower updates and resource availability
• Occasional presentation of white paper\case studies to technical teams
• Manage staff or team and foster training\mentoring
• Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.
• 5-10 years experience in building enclosure consulting and project management
• Registered Architect/Licensed Engineer in the States of WA, CA, CO, AZ, HI, TX, OR, ID, MT, UT desired.
• Experience with client relations, preparation of construction documents, bidding, and construction administration.
• Experience with quality assurance reviews with construction drawings and specifications.
• Experience with detailed-level reviews of Division 07 and 08 submittal and shop drawings.
• Familiar with exterior curtain wall, window wall, glass, masonry, concrete, air-barrier, coating, sealant, and metal panel systems.
• Familiar with roofing and below-grade waterproofing systems.
• Familiar with existing building code and code requirements for remediation within the built environment.

Position requires about 30% travel
